Family, friends & forgiveness - December 12th 2010, 09:19 PM

Family, friends & forgiveness

As I woke from my haze today
I learned I will be here for a longer stay
Not for just another holiday
Here into the new year past my birthday

My family visited. I thought it would be a joyous day
Instead, I saw my daddy cry as he walked away
I could tell he tried to hold back and to stay strong
As my pain increases, I think I know what is wrong

My mom will never know her daughter as being a poet
As she walks around with blinders on being stoic
From across the room, I caught a glimpse of her waving goodbye
Her move so quick. She never saw the tear in her own daughter's eye

Lizzie also came to see me
As turns out, her visits this week were three
I had missed the previous two being in and out of sleep
Covered in warm blankets. Creating a huddled heap

Health and family aside things are even more complicated
I now know for days I was being placated
For where is the boy I had kissed but never dated
The one day after day for whom I waited

His being away was not about a snow storm or any weather
He and Lizzie spending so much time brought them closer together
In them both, I had placed so much of my love and trust
Charlie and Lizzie, I find, were together in a moment of lust

Lizzie and I had once shared pinky promises and butterfly kisses
From swinging for hours, playing in creeks to shopping in the section for misses
She is the only person in my present who knows everything in my past
Her love, my love, our love, I thought would forever last

If Charlie and I had met under different circumstances
Maybe there would have been proms, pretty dresses and dances
I first met him when from my bed I fell
Only in my poems did my love for him I tell

A counselor helped me through my emotions sieve
Write down my feelings and work to forgive
So these words I will give a try
Fighting back the tears from another cry

To Lizzie:
Older than me, you are so pretty and curaceous
As I look at myelf, all I can say is good lord and good gracious
I want you to know that given the situation I understand. I really do
Love can not be planned. I will never regret the love I shared with you

To Charlie:
Boy, about you, what else can this girl say
You had me with your beautiful eyes that day
I loved your laugh, your touch and your smile
I wish we could have talked once more for a while

To Lizzie and Charlie:
I am glad you two could find comfort in each other
I take comfort too in knowing I brought you to one another
I learned long ago how to swallow even the biggest pill
I love you both still and I always, always will

To me, love above everything else conquers all
So today, I scribbled I love you both on my wall

Peace and love, Mary Margaret

This is amazing. I hope ur proud of it. How long have you been writing? I've not yet seen a 13 year old produce something of this caliber.

You're beautiful. There's no way I'd be that gracious in your situation. You're one in a million, I'm glad they are still both there for you, and wish I could be too.

You truly are an amazing person, Mary. This is a very powerful piece, totally feel your emotion. Really like how you worked in the two "letters" addressed to them.

We are all here for you.

Miss you!!

For a person who loves to write, I am at a loss for words after reading your comments. When I wrote this last Sunday, I did not know the impact it would have or that it would be the last time I would see my mother.

To all of you- I give a very heartfelt thank you.

To my mom- I love you and will always miss you. I made it to my one month anniversary. I wanted you to know. The three of us will be reunited one day. Until that day, you will always be in my heart.

Mary, no matter how much you try to deny it you are an amazing writer.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
