BC prescription late - June 10th 2015, 03:53 AM

So my birth control prescription is late. I am out of refills and I was supposed to start my new pack today, but the pharmacy doesn't have the order in from my doctor yet. I'm a bit concerned. How long can I go past when I am supposed to start before it isn't effective anymore?

Obviously I may need to look at other contraceptive options if this goes on too long. Condoms are a must, but are there other methods I can use? Perhaps use a condom and the withdrawal method? I'm just afraid my partner won't be too big a fan of that. However I don't want something super complicated or messy or time consuming. Ideas?

I found an article: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/0...trol-mistakes/ The very last point might be of use to you. It's really the only information I have been able to find.

As for contraception, my boyfriend and I used condoms and he pulled out the first few times we had sex because I wasn't on birth control. It seemed to work fine but I admit I was a little paranoid about it.

I would talk to your partner about this method and see what he has to say. Hopefully he will be comfortable with doing this until you get back on birth control.

Also, there are things like the sponge which can be used for contraceptive. I'm new to all this so if there are other options out there I haven't really looked into them. I remember learning about the sponge in Human Sexuality. I was considering this option when I was having difficulty with getting on birth control.

I am sure you will get better responses than this but I thought I would submit something so it didn't go without a response.

Thank you Jenna! My prescription is ready today so I'll only have missed one day. My partner has had a vasectomy so I think I'll be fine without using condoms.
