birth control negative side effects - May 2nd 2017, 09:06 PM

so I've been taking the Aubra birth control pill since January. there were a few slip ups along the way, including taking plan b twice, which sky rocketed my hormones and threw everything off.
however, now it's been about 2 months strictly taking the pill with no additional pills and also no sex.

so I've noticed a couple things and I think it's a result of the BC...
-MUCH lower libido. Jesus, I used to be like a fucking rabbit and now it's just like I'll masturbate because I'm bored. even when I do feel the need to masturbate, it's not the same. like I could ignore it if I wanted, and my vagina just feels so gross now.
-unable to become wet by myself. like, at all. and even when there is some fluid down there, it feels too thick and not like normal wetness. when I was with my sexual partner, it would be easier to get wet with foreplay, but once he started skipping foreplay I was forced to endure dry sex.

everything just feels so gross and abnormal now, and I'm tempted to just stop using it completely.
however, it has benefitted me with some breast growth, much easier and shorter periods, and just overall feel more under control.
idk if there are birth control pills that wouldn't do this but any advice?

oh also, I don't want to have to use lubrication. not sure exactly why or what this is all about but I really just can't see myself buying lube. my pride just gets in the way of that for some reason. I think it's because vaginal dryness is mostly associated with older women and I don't want to "stoop to that level"
yet, even though I don't look down on girls who need or use lube. idk just I would feel ashamed.

For labido, any of the hormonal contraceptives will have that side effect. Some people experience the change differently for progestin-only vs. combination methods, but ultimately, both have that risk. If you're looking for non-hormonal methods, your best bet would be the paragard IUD (which is very effective and would last 12 years) or using condoms, but otherwise, yeah, hormonal methods just do that.

I do want to add that lube is awesome. I've never "needed" additional lubrication, but the first time I decided to experiment and use it, it was amazing. My partner and I now use it frequently. Yes, the vagina is self-lubricating. But treat lube like a sex toy that also makes sex safer and more comfortable. It ultimately creates a more pleasurable experience, but can also help for vaginal dryness and making condoms more effective. It's great. I understand the stigma, but if you can overcome it, you won't regret it.

I've heard that switching to a pill with different hormones can bring it back to normal though... Planned Parenthood gave me a years supply of Aubra, so hopefully I'll be able to exchange or something.
Ugh I really want an IUD simply based on how often I forget the pill, but I have also heard that the copper, non-hormonal IUD causes even more intense periods and cramps. Part of the reason I'm even continuing to take birth control while not in a sexual relationship is because my periods used to be hell.

That's great to hear about lube though, it actually made me want to try it. I guess besides getting over myself, my next biggest concern would be introducing it to a partner and having them be concerned with the whole stigma thing.
I think it would be different if I didn't actually need it, but since I do now that just makes the stigma that much worse and makes me even more self-conscious about it.

Wow I sure hope BC pills don't work by just killing one's libido!
