condom allergy or worse? - October 3rd 2018, 10:42 AM

so I had sex with a new partner 2 days ago. it wasn't something I planned on doing so the pre-sex discussion about STDs and birth control that I usually have with my partners was essentially just a quick "you don't have anything right?" and "put a condom on first".
I was just ending my period that day and still experiencing some dryness that comes with it, so I don't think I was very wet to begin with. the condom was the most rubbery smelling condom I've ever come into contact with, and I could pretty much tell by the smell that it was going to irritate me down there. I think the friction of the non-lubricated condom and dryness gave me some kind of burn down there. everything has been itchy ever since then, but I asked the guy again and he says he has no STDs. I believe him because Im 90% sure that was his first time anyway.
but the itching and dryness is horrible. I also feel an area where it feels like there is a bit of a friction burn. what can I do about this and should I be worried?

Hmm...
Maybe to test your theory on condom allergy, is to rub the condom on your arm and see if you get rash.

It could be from the fact that it wasn't lubricated and could be just a burn.
You can't catch STDs through a condom. So its not that.

Allergy or not you should go talk to your doctor about this.

Hi there,

Even if you use a condom, there's still a chance you can get an STD as a condom doesn't block all barriers of skin to skin contact. From the sounds of it, I think there wasn't enough lubrication used. I find when I am intimate if I don't use a lot of lube I'm in a lot of pain the next day.

If you decide to be intimate again maybe try using lubricant, and if you still believe you could have a latex allergy, you could try latex free condoms. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

An STI is possible but symptoms for that usually wouldn't be this quick. I'd obviously get tested and encourage him to as well before any further fun times but this sounds like a condom problem.

It could either be the lubricant or an allergy. I am allergic to latex and using latex gives me a rash and makes me itchy, so that definitely sounds similar. I'd try out Lifestyle Skyn polyisoprene condoms, they are both non-latex and use silicone based lubricant.
