Implanon... - March 21st 2010, 02:33 PM

I've had the implanon since August, and had a few problems with periods at the start which made me anaemic for a little while, so I was on the pill also. However thats stopped and since I've been depressed, extremely anxious and paranoid. Do you think its related?

I've got a smear test on wed, so can speak to the nurse then, but dont know if i should make an appointment with a doctor too... help?

Hey There.

The depression could definitly a side effect of the Implanon - I would talk to the nurse about it on Wednesday, and then if she thinks you should see a doctor then make an appointment.

Take Care x

Whenever you mess with hormones, though, there's always a chance something will get tweaked in the process. Just voice your concerns to the nurse, they can do pretty much everything a doctor can do. :]

Vlora, I had the same problem with the implanon with bleeding and so they put me on a pill. I became a nervous reck, completely paranoid, and unable to trust anybody. So I defintley think it is related.

I love the implanon though, so I didn't want to automatically opt for having it taken out. I stopped taking the pill and after another month or so the bleeding stopped. Since then whenever I get spotting I just take one pill and no more and it seems to clear it up.

I agree talking to your doctor/nurse is a very good idea, and honestly it's almost certainly the pill! So don't worry. I was freaking out that I was having some kind of mental breakdown/relapse but within two or three weeks of stopping the pill I was back to myself

Oh I see, well it could still defintley be related, make an appointment at wherever you got your implanon (or go to a walk in clinic) ASAP to discuss it. They will be able to help
