Tampons or pads? Or...? - April 11th 2010, 10:24 PM

What do you use during 'that time of the month?'
I prefer tampons, they just seem cleaner and less messy.

Pads.

Tampons hurt like hell for me I can't get them in at all. I may try and use them in the future but right now, no thanks.

I prefer tampons too. However, I know personally that if you have clots, the tampons can make the clots stay in there, which can cause a nasty uterus infection...mine for example took a uterus biopsy, 2 months worth of anti-biotics and another uterus biopsy to make sure it was gone. I use tampons, but I use pads too once in a while to make sure everything comes out.

Tampons.

Seriously pads are like diapers. It's not nice sitting in your own blood.

Holly, I totally agree. It's even worse when you're having a particularly heavy day, and you're basically swimming in it. Ugh.

Tampons, because even though it sounds gross, I don't like to feel that gush of blood that I feel when I wear pads.
It just feels a lot cleaner, and the absorbency is higher so I don't have to worry about leaking through. There's always the option of wearing a tampon and a mini pad for extra backup as well!

I don't have a favourite, I alternate between pads and tampons

Don't worry, it's not stupid, I can't get them in either as soon as I start to put them in it hurts too much and then they get stuck and won't go round the 'bend'

tampons deffinatly. pads make me feel gross and dirty. but if the flow is quote light I'll use a pad just to give myself a break because I get stomach ache otherwise

Tampons!
I seriously do not know how I survived before I started wearing them. I always feel so dirty wearing pads.
I wear pads at night but during the day and on nights out, it's tampons all the way. I barely know they are there and I don't feel that same disgusting feeling compared to when I wear a pad.

Also, this might sound bad. But If I wore a pad, I'd feel like I was 13 again. I don't know why. I've always just thought tampons were for mature girls?

Taking into consideration my period is far from heavy, I use pads. I’ve never really had the need to use a tampon plus they do scare me in a way I guess I’m a lucky girl with a light period.

I prefer pads just because I can be forgetful at times and need to know that something is there. Also toxic-shock syndrome scares me too bad to use tampons again.

I use washable pads. They don't cost me anything now that I have enough of them and it's better for the environment. Also if you change pads as much as you change tampons, it doesn't really get to the point where it feels dirty. Plus I have a fairly light flow, so pads do me just fine.

Of course. They're made of cloth, so you just rinse them out and throw them in the washing machine, just like other clothes. Also they come in all sorts of pretty fabrics and patterns . And they are just as hygienic as normal pads and don't contribute to landfill.

I can see your point about tampons fitting in bags easier, but I always have such huge bags that it isn't a problem for me.

What about the used ones? I've considered this (my mother won't go for it... but one day I will be out of her house!) but people are often going through my purse and I'd hate for them to find a used one or something. Ew.

I've also considered menstrual cups, but for right now I'm using tampons.

Oh, I put mine in a smaller bag inside my handbag. But I don't have a lot of people going through my purse. Even if they did, most girls would be smart enough to work out what the smaller bag was and guys shouldn't be snooping in my bag anyway .

Tampons ... but I'll use a pad at the end when it's really light because I don't want to leave a tampon in for next to nothing, I'm terrified of infection so I'm really careful.

Re: Tampons or pads? Or...? - April 12th 2010, 03:23 AM

I really can't stand pads now. In the past few years I've only used them if I've started in the middle of a school day or if I leak. Otherwise, I use tampons. I started using tampons because of sports. It's a lot easier to deal with a tampon while playing a sport instead of a pad. For a while, I didn't get cramps when I used tampons, but would when using pads. However, now I get cramps lots and leak almost everyday on my period. It's becoming a pain in the ass. OH well.

Pads because I've never been taught how to 'put a tampon in', and I'm too afraid to try and figure it out myself. Haha. Lame?

pads only because i can't stand the thought of shoving something up my va jai jai, only a penis is allowed up lol but seriously the thought of even putting my finger up there sort of freaks me out, so putting a tampon up there is gonna freak me out serious ways lol. and i heard of a girl that died from tampons don't know the full story but it's kinda freaked me out ever since i heard of it.

I used to use tampons but my periods have gotten so light that I really don't need them anymore. So...pads, unless I'm going swimming.

Tampons for sure I've always had heavy periods, pads would be impractical because i'd be changing them all the time. Normally i use both at the same time though.

Tampons all the way! Pads are icky and feel like wearing a nappy and it's all wet and ew. Also, I don't like wearing big pants Tampons are quick, easy and you can't even feel them *sigh of relief* ahhhh

A bit of both

I was a religious pad wearer until I was about 16-17. Then I changed to Tampons. But a few times when wearing tampons recently, I got pretty hot, sweaty and felt a bit faint and ill. That made me a bit scared about the whole TSS thing.

So now I'm back to pads, and tampons just for when I'm going out for the evening or swimming etc.

Tampons mainly.
I do try and keep a box of pads around for night time when my periods are extremely light.. like this months.
I'll wear the pad to bed just in case, but nothing ever comes out haha.
So I'm only wearing the tampons during the day when I'm awake and can monitor my hours etc.

Pads, but only 'cause I haven't bothered to make the switch to tampons yet. I really do procrastinate everything.

My periods are pretty light, at any rate.

Re: Tampons or pads? Or...? - April 13th 2010, 02:37 AM

I use a Moon cup. I don't know if any of you have heard of it. It's incredible. I got it a few years ago, and I never want to go back to pads or tampons. It saves on money, because you buy one, and if you clean it and look after it right, it lasts years. And there's no risk of TSS or anything. Also, when you have it in, you don't need to worry about carrying tampons or pads around with you for the week. Some people find it a bit weird, but I love it. I'd recommend you at least read up about it.
