Hair Removal - June 18th 2010, 04:50 PM

I was reading one of the threads about preferring (or not preferring) a trimmed/shaved/whatever'd pubic area...now, I've shaved it before (not completely) and it's a royal pain in the ass. I've tried an at-home waxing kit once, too, and it was a complete failure (it hurt a lot and only worked a little...not even noticeable). So, girls who choose a cleaner down-there-area, what methods other than shaving have you tried and how well did they work?

Hey Charlotte,

Shaving with a brand new razor is a good idea to do. Also, shave the direction that the hair grows.
Make sure the skin is damp and put some shaving cream on to shave.
Also, moisturize afterwards to minimize redness.

You could also go get a professional wax if you were comfortable with that.

Hope this helped.

That's exactly what I was going to recommend, however it can be a little uncomfortable for some people so if you aren't okay with that then shaving is your best bet. Also I would recommend using a razor designed for sensitive skin.

Hair removal cream! They don't seem to do one for down there...but there are a few hair removal creams for the face which are very delicate and sensitive enough to use down there

As with any chemical, test it on a small bit first.

This is very effective and leaves it smooth and lovely, but it does involve just...lying on the floor for 20 minutes in a locked bathroom waiting for it to do its job. Can be a bit annoying if someones thudding on the door for the toilet xD

I wax.

There are a few tips to getting it right.
The best waxes to use are generally salon grade products. Using a hard wax (one that you melt, it sets hard when you apply it) rather than cotton strip waxes is a good idea as it sets and grabs the hair, rather than leaving a sticky mess with a few hairs removed.

Make sure you wash with some sort of soap so that your hair is oil free, the wax sticks better that way.

Trim hair down to about 7mm in length. They recommend 1cm but if your hair is really dense, it may not work so well.

Do it in thin, long strips, not wide chunks. If there is too much hair being grabbed at once, you won't be strong enough to rip it out and you'll end up pulling until the cows come home.

If you have too much trouble, get it done professionally the first time and then DIY after when the hair grows back. Hair grows in waves. The first time is the worst because you're taking out hair is all stages of growth. Only about a third of the hair will grow back at first so the second time won't be so bad.
