Hard Bump Under Skin; Groin Area - May 29th 2011, 05:56 PM

Ok, so the other day I came back from playing sport and realised that there was abit of pus coming out of about 8 hair follicles (all next to each other) on the top right hand side of my pubic hair (where the pubic area meets the thigh) These wern't a result of ingrown hairs as far as I'm aware!

I probably shouldn't have done this, but i decided to drain the pus by plucking the hairs out and then put teatree oil on the area. I've been putting tea tree oil on everyday for about three days and the hair follicles haven't pussed again. HOWEVER I can feel a hard lump (size of a grape) in the area which hurts if I press it. I'm just assuming that these two things (the hair follicles producing pus & the hard lump) may be related.

I'm not posting here for people to tell me to go to the doctors. If it gets worse or doesn't improve I will do, but if anyone has any idea's what this could be and how to get rid of whatever it may be please reply! I'd rather avoid going to the docs if I can.

It might just be a large cyst, I'm not a doctor but I get cystic acne and they can be rather large and are puss filled and can pop. People can get cysts anywhere and sometimes are surgically removed if they arent on the surface and are causing problems. I would monitor it for a few days and then, like you said get it checked.

Hey!

I agree that it could be a cyst. Keep monitoring it, and then go and get it checked out. Even if it goes away by itself, that doesn't mean it can't come back, so you might as well be safer than sorry.

Hey

I had a hard lump down there as well (although there wasnt really any pus) but it was red and sore. I just squeezed mine and got all the gunk out then bathed it in antiseptic. After a few days it wasnt sore anymore and the lump disappeared. You could try that I guess or just go see your GP

Yes, I agree, it could just be a cyst. Watch it and see how it develops. However if it is painful, get it checked. It could be something very serious!

I get these from time to time, they are minor cyst and mine become really big about grape size some bigger. I notice though if you shave and an ingrown hair is there they have more of a tendency to form. I have only popped one though and put some neosparin on it and it goes away. I don't think they are a huge deal and some of it can be from the underwear you wear, and if you play sport you may sweat down there alil getting in the hair follicles. I think it should be fine if you keep them clean. BEWARE of STAPH INFECTION, it might not be a cyst it could be Staph and that would have to be removed surgically and Staph is nasty and it can come from your sweat getting in pores and stuff, this naturally grows in your nose. heres a link to go look at http://www.medicinenet.com/staph_infection/article.htm

thanks for your replys! i've been putting teatree oil on the area everyday as it has healing properties which appears to have been working for healing where there were pus filled bumps (which i had to break to drain the pus). however the bump under the skin is still there and hasn't got any bigger; I'm going to wait a few more days and see whether it gets smaller.

It could be a swollen lymph node. Not too much to worry about. Hopefully it'll drain on its own. Be careful poking and prodding it, you don't want to leave yourself with a scar.

Not a lymph node, The groinal lymph node is on the left side. It's not bilateral like the ones under your arms.

TBH, get it checked :/ Idk why people are so scared of going to the dr about something like this.

A lot of people can't go to the doctor to get something checked out for financial purposes. Seeing doctor's cost money, sometimes even if you have insurance coverage.

She's also in the UK, isn't healthcare free there?

Re: Hard Bump Under Skin; Groin Area - June 5th 2011, 08:47 PM

Hey!

I've had this happen to me before. I honestly didn't touch it for a week and then eventually it got big enough that it ended up pussing and it started healing itself up. I would recommend not touching or putting anything else on it since it can trigger infections. If you have had any intercourse previously, it could be something from that, but don't be certain. Time may heal it, but if it doesn't work, you know what to do. Good luck!
