Side Effects of the Pill

I know that all birth control pills have side effects, or usually anyway. But the thing is, one I've heard that is common is weight gain, and this would be a serious issue for me because not only am I already almost twice the weight I should be, BMI wise, but I'm also recovering from an EDNOS where I would restrict in take, and if I were gaining a bunch of weight, I would probably stop taking it and start to relapse. Are there any pills where this doesn't happen or is a rare occurance? I would be open to other forms of birth control too, but the pill is my main option seeing as I'll have to go to a clinic to get it free or for very little so we can actually afford to get it.

It's different for everyone, but I'm on Generic Yaz and I haven't any unwanted weight gain. My breasts have gotten bigger, but that's all.

You won't know if a birth control will make you gain weight until you go on it, unfortunately. All pills effect everyone differently. For example, the pill I'm taking doesn't make me gain weight, but it could make someone else gain weight.

I'm also on generic Yaz and since taking it I've lost a few lbs, i dont think my breasts have grown like kitty's but they've gotten more tender. every pill is different, if it's a concern mention it to your doctor

I'm on generic Trivora and the only side effect seems to be it increases the intensity of my own mood swings. It didn't make me gain weight or anything like that.

I'm on generic Yaz as well. I had no weight gain, and no breast gain, but my sister's breasts got bigger from it. So it differs. My best friend gained a lot of weight while she was on birth control, but I think other factors my have contributed to her weight gain as well.

It depends on the hormone you're on. I would talk to your gynecologist if you are worried about it. She'll know more info.

As Lissa said, you won't know how the pill effects you until you start taking it.

I'm on Reclipsen, and have had unwanted weight gain, but this is due to my increase in appetite. Not sure if it's pill related, but it's possible. However, I know someone else who is also on Reclipsen, and they haven't had any unwanted weight gain or increase in appetite.

I'm on generic Yaz also. I didn't have any weight gain, but my breasts did get bigger.

You should tell your doctor your concerns so they can help you find a birth control best for you.

I don't have a source to back this up, but I've heard from a few people and places that the reason a lot of girls gain weight on the pill is because it increases your appetite, and they eat more, leading to an increase in weight. That may just be a myth but it does seem to add up for a lot of people. I haven't gained any weight from any of the three pills I've been on, but my appetite has increased. I don't really gain a lot of weight from eating so I'm not really sure. :/

I'm guessing you haven't been on the pill before?? To go on one you'll need to visit your doctor anyway, so they can check your blood pressure and stuff first. So it would be best to voice your concerns then!! Best of luck.x

I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and haven't gained a pound since I started taking it. In fact, it's virtually side-effect-free now.

The reason you gain weight on hormonal contraception is because it can make you want to eat more/crave unhealthy foods. If you control what you eat, you won't gain any weight, it's completely up to you.
It can't magically make you put on weight, it's all about what you eat/how much exercise you do.

The actual pill wont cause weight gain BUT it can increase your appetite which leads to weight gain. So if you keep tabs on whether your appetite is changing and whether you're actually eating because you're hungry, you should be fine

I'm on Beyaz and lost two pounds. It has a drug in it to make you be less bloated.

I'm on TriNessa and it's never made me gain any weight that I noticed.
I think it may be that it does make you more hungry so just watch what you eat (to a healthy extent of course).
Maybe talk to your doctor and see if there's one that doesn't cause a lot of bloating or weight gain.

I'd just like add that some birth control causes major mood swings or it just messes with your mood. I know mine makes me sorta bipolar & I'm asking to switch birth control next time I go to the doctor.
