Ear Infection - February 15th 2010, 09:44 PM

So my little man has an ear infection in his left ear. He has been prescribed antibiotics, but does anyone know how long it will take before it starts working? I am just curious because he has been very unhappy.

Also, I cannot believe it! He weighed in at 14 lbs even today at the doctors!

Probably 48-72 hours at the least, for most antibiotics, possibly sooner or later. But it's usually within that time range.

I presume it's Amoxocilin? If so, then yes. About 2-3 days to start working. He'll probably be on it for 10 days.

It should only take a day or two, I would think. Hope he's feeling better soon.

Thanks for the answers. He seems to be a bit better today honestly, not as cranky as he has been.

Ask your doctor if you're not sure when it should fully kick in.

Re: Ear Infection - February 17th 2010, 04:39 AM

Yeah about 2-3 days is generally the time it takes for any antibiotic to take affect in a little one. Addy has had 10 ear infections since she was born... the first one was when she was only 6 weeks old. its horrible to see how much pain they go through... but it will get better. give him a little baby Tylenol (if your doc says its ok) and rub his back (for some reason it has always helped addy when she gets them). It will get better. Hope he feels better soon!
