Surgery. - December 3rd 2010, 03:02 PM

My son had surgery to remove a cyst on his forehead on Wednesday, and everything was a success There was a slight chance that it was attached to his skull and even a slight chance it wasn't a cyst at all but something more serious... but luckily all went smoothly!

I was pretty confident that I wanted no one else in my family to be there the day of the surgery because I didn't want to overwhelm him with people, but my in-laws insisted on coming for "moral support." I only agreed because I honestly didn't know how serious this surgery could end up being and didn't want to be responsible for them not seeing him again... because sometimes bad things happen.

When we got there they took us back to a room where they could prep him for surgery. They got him in his little gown and gave him a little oxygen mask thing to play with so he would feel comfortable with one being near his face. He likes to growl into cups and things because it makes a neat noise, so we taught him to growl into it

He was supposed to have an induction room where we would be allowed with him while he was put under, but apparently they were full (even though we were one of the first ones there for same-day surgery... woke up at 4:45 to be there!). So they had to give him "baby valium" to relax him and so it would be easier for him to separate from me. I had been pretty strong the whole day because I didn't want to make my son anxious by crying, but that teared me up a bit I didn't want to leave him before he was under.

Soon after, they took him back and I had to watch his poor little confused face stare at me as the nurse left with him... I still wasn't crying though. I was staying strong. Well then I get back to the waiting room and my mother-in-law is bawling her eyes out. I'll admit I was kind of pissed. You were here for moral support for us, and you are the one crying... Which of course made me cry.

About 45 minutes later the doctor came in to tell us everything went great! And that we were allowed back to see him. Waking up from anesthesia was not fun for him. He was very confused and drowsy. I just sat there and rocked with him until the nurse told us it was ok to leave. They said it would take a few hours for him to get back to his old self, that he wouldnt be able to walk very well, and that he wouldn't have an appetite. But of course my little man was in a great mood by the time we got home and was running around and stuffing his face

We have an appointment to get his bandage removed on the 13th and I'm excited to see how he looks

Aw gosh, I couldn't imagine! I teared up just reading about it, but we will blame that on post-pregnancy hormones lol.

Glad everything went well and it wasn't something more serious. Hope he stays happy.

Thanks! I gave him so many hugs and smooches the rest of the day it wasn't even funny hehe. I really don't know how I'd make it through something more serious than this. Especially while he's still too young to understand whats going on.

Kala, don't worry... I haven't been pregnant for 14 months and I still tear up anytime I read or see something baby related

Glad everything went okay.
I remember sitting in the E.R. and being told they'd have to actually operate to fix the break in Logan's arm. :| awful days.

Give him lots of hugs and kisses and rock him whenever he wants
