Just a simple question: When do I take a pregnancy test?

I had unprotected sex the day after my last period. I waited 4 weeks (also when my next period should be due but hasn't shown up) and the test was negative.

Is that enough time to be accurate?

That should be enough time to give you accurate results. If you know your cycle well enough, you can get an accurate reading 10-12 days after you ovulate. Try waiting another week and testing again, or go to your doctor for a blood test.

Yes, 4 weeks after sex is usually enough time to get an accurate result. You can usually get an accurate result two weeks (14 days) after unprotected sex. If you haven't gotten your period yet, try re-testing in a week or visiting a clinic to get a test done. They'll take your blood to figure out if you're pregnant or not.

Yes it should be enough time. If you still haven't had your period in a few days, take another test & see the results of that. Make sure you take the test first thing in the morning, before you eat or drink or urinate.

If you've had a drastic change to your diet, or if you're stressed, these things can also affect your cycle. If you take another test and its negative, I advise you to wait and see if you get your next period in a couple of weeks. If not, you should probably visit your doctor.

The general rule with pregnancy tests is:
A negative result could be positive.
A positive result is almost definitely positive.

4 weeks should be enough time for sure. I know if you're 2 or 3 weeks late you an usually get a positive test if it happens to be.
