advice I really can't hold in all that's happening? - September 4th 2011, 08:04 AM

Ok brace yourself. I'm in a fucked up situation and I really need advice. Please don't judge me. I didn't mean to get myself in this. I had no choice. I was raped which cased me to get pregnant. The dad is having battles with mental stability disorders. I forgive him but I don't even really want his help if he could help. Despite he's the one I love my son Ashton that is. He's my baby I forever love that is one constant. I try to just keep it all inside that I am an adult I should not be struggling like this but I am struggling. I am homeless. I have no money and am living in a one night shelter. I have an addiction problem. I can't seem to do it on my own I just get worst. I don't know where to turn. My mom says I should abort like I would this far along I went to the clinic ditched her that morning. My estranged dad did give me advice on going to a mental facility but I don't want my baby taken away. I want to keep it? I feel like if I told them how I feel they'd just tell me icouldnt at this point care for the baby. And I know I can't now that why I need help in these next 14 weeks. I know I need help but I'm scard if I ask for it I'll just be turned down. Advice?

There is absolutely no shame in asking for help if you need it. The most they could do is turn you down, but think about all the good that can come out of it. It's worth a try, isn't it? There are women's shelters located across the country and services for those such as yourself who are pregnant and need help. Family planning clinics may be able to refer you to services you may find helpful but you can always ask around and look through your phone book.

It may be a good idea for you to consider going into a rehabilitation program to face your addiction. Continuing your pregnancy while abusing drugs is incredibly risky and irresponsible. Why would they take your baby away? They have no right to force you into aborting your child. It is possible for them to work with you and your pregnancy instead of cutting out one factor to make their jobs easier.

Please get help. Don't let this fear of being turned down stop you from doing everything you possibly can to better your situation for you and your child. He deserves that much, no?

Take care.

It's great that you've found a way to get help. The best thing to do if you're going to carry the child is to see a doctor. It might be dangerous (depending on what you're addicted to, how much you're using, and how far along you are) to quit while you're pregnant because there's a good chance the baby will go through withdrawl which can be really bad if that happens while you're still pregnant. No one can force you to have an abortion, but if the baby happened to be born addicted, they could step in and take him/her from you. If you're told that it's okay to stop using there should be services available for addiction treatment. You'll also have to decide whether to raise the child or place him/her for adoption, whichever you feel is best for the baby.
