brown spotting. - September 10th 2011, 03:48 PM

I'm having brown spotting 4 weeks after losing my baby, the question is can I still be spotting and secondly having sex a few days ago is okay right? I can't get pregnant because I'm not ovulating yet right?

Spotting is okay. It's most likely your period, or just some extra blood left over from your last period (if you've had one within the past 4 weeks). If it persists, or you are really unsure, you should speak to your doctor about it. We aren't doctor's and can only tell you what we think. We can't give you a diagnosis.

As for sex, there is always a chance that you can get pregnant if you're having unprotected sex. Even if you aren't ovulating. Sperm can live up to 5-7 days inside a female body, or 3-4 days once it's hit the fallopian tubes where fertilization takes place. Source for this is here: http://www.justmommies.com/articles/...erm-live.shtml

In all honesty, any time you have unprotected sex there is always a chance of pregnancy. I would talk to your doctor about birth control if you don't want to get pregnant again, or you should start using condoms. They're 99% effective when used correctly against pregnancy. 9 times out 10, a condom is used wrongly which results in an unwanted pregnancy.

Keep all this in mind, and again, speak to your doctor about the spotting to make sure that it's safe and okay for that to be happening.

Brown spotting after a D&C for a few weeks is normal. As for sex, what did the Dr tell you after the D&C? I have had one dr tell me to wait only one week, another to wait four weeks, and then one doctor even told me to wait 6 weeks after a D&C to have sex but all agreed that the base line should be when you stop bleeding you can have sex but that varies from woman to woman. Ovulation, are you taking ovulation tests daily? How do you know you aren't ovulating? Generally most women ovulate anywhere from 2-4 weeks after a miscarriage/d&c/ abortion/ birth. After all of those things you are also very very fertile so if you are not wanting to try again immediately I reccommend any kind of birth control method.

it wasn't a D&C though it was an induction. i was induced and went trhough regular labor. Now I am having regular spotting and pain. I am thinking it's my period since I haven't had once since being pregnant but i'm not 100% sure.

If it's really worrying you, then you should contact your doctor to make sure. As mentioned above, spotting for a few weeks after a D&C is normal, but since you didn't have one, it could be something else entirely. So, the best thing to do would be to speak to your doctor about it as they could give you an accurate answer.

I'm probably going to have to I thought it was just period bleeding but I'm soaking through a pad an hour and I don't think that's a good thing.

I was going to say it would most likely be your period starting then, but if you are soaking more than a pad an hour that is not good and I hope you got in to be checked. It might just be that after a miscarriage, esp a natural/induced miscarriage your period is wonky during the next cycle. After my most recent miscarriage, during my next period I remember I changed my tampon at the beginning of my lunch hour, then by the end of my lunch hour I had soaked through it, then I changed it and put a pad on as well as a tampon and soaked both as well as through my pants. Your hormones are still adjusting and it might throw you off for a few cycles.

As Amber said, your body is still trying to regulate your hormones. After miscarriages/stillbirths it is normal for some people to get very heavy bleeding. I would suggest the doctors if you it continues and does not resolve in a few hours, maybe a day - depending on what you feel is alright.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
