faulty pregnancy tests - November 11th 2011, 11:44 PM

Am I the only one who gets really irritated about faulty pregnancy tests? You do what you're supposed to, and it comes up blank. They're way too expensive for them to not always work -__-

Anyone agree?

I'm lucky in the fact I've only ever had to take one and it worked. But I would be upset if I bought one from a regular drug store or somewhere else and it didn't work. But then again I've only ever bought one from the dollar store and they work just fine for me and if it didn't, well it's only a dollar.

I'd be upset too. I've only taken one, and it worked and came up negative. Since they're so expensive, try buying them from the dollar store. They work just as effectively as drug store bought ones.

I've bought a few pregnancy tests in my lifetime and one of them which was about $8 came out "invalid" so I was pretty irritated.

Oh my gosh, I feel your pain! I've taken several (only because I have to convince myself I'm not pregnant :P ) and they always come out invalid...so I've resorted to using a cup and having someone (boyfriend or friend) time it for me. Has worked ever since.

Also, you can order pregnancy STRIP tests online and they are effective and usually about $1/strip. Great if you ever try to conceive, or if you're a worrier like me :P

honestly i was told depending on the type of test it is could do a great deal on if it's faulty or not the blue dye kind ( which can be pink as well *shrugs give false positives i'm told, i was reading how some man peed on one of the walmart ones and got a postive . I'm sticking with just seeing a doctor for an answer.

This just depends on several circumstances. Because it's a cheap test does NOT mean it will be more likely to be faulty. Always check the expiration dates, although sometimes they can still expire before the given date.

As Jennifer said, always go to the doctor to be certain of a positive test.

In response to Jennifer's statement, if you are worried about false negatives - The lower the mIU number, the higher the sensitivity for hcg (20 is higher sensitivity than 50). This can detect pregnancy earlier, BUT it is more likely to give you false positives or show a positive pregnancy, but you miscarry before your period and still get your period (thus resulting in what seems like a false positive). So, the guy could have had elevated hcg levels, which could be caused by a few different things. Or it could have been a faulty test :P

I don't have time to go to the doctor for anything... I work about 45 hrs a week and I'm in college full time.

I just think there should be a way to get a refund if you take a pregnancy test and it comes up completely blank.

There's a customer service number you can call. Sometimes they send you a coupon for a free test. Other times they just "note" the default.
