miscarriages and twins in one gene?! - December 19th 2011, 10:02 PM

So, I was adopted and didn't find out until recently that my father and mother both have history of twins in their families. My mother was pregnant with fraternal twins and my father has a history of identical twins on his side. Now, I'm so nervous that if I get pregnant I could have twins, considering the fraternal twins and identical twins is all about the mother's egg. Now, on top of that, my mother had 10 miscarriages including the twins. So, I'm so nervous that I would miscarry or have twins. I really don't want twins because that would just be so difficult to deal with, but I don't want to ever have a miscarriage because it would just be so depressing. I wanted to mainly know if I should tell the guy that I usually have sex with or should I just leave it out? I mean this guy and I have been best friends since fourth grade and have been dating on and off, but now we just are friends with benefits and nothing more. We just don't have a good history for the most part, considering how many times we've broken up and gotten back together.

Now, I just am not sure if I should tell him considering all we've been through and everything. Also, I don't want to freak him out into not having sex with me anymore.

Also, he wants kids really badly and I'm kinda hesitant considering that I'm only 20 and shouldn't really be thinking about kids until after my education.

What are my risks of having twins? What is my risk of having a miscarriage?

From what I've heard, twins usually skip a generation. While both of your parents have twins that run in their family, it's likely that you won't be at risk for having twins, but your children will be since the gene is in the family. Make sense?

Now, nobody knows or can predict if they'll have a miscarriage. Miscarriages are random, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. It's very depressing, yes, but it's the way life is. Doctor's don't know why woman miscarry and if they did, I'm sure there would be something you could do to prevent them, but there isn't. So, I can't tell you what your risk is of having twins or miscarriages.

Now, telling your guy friend. I would leave it out. It's not something that's important. You're not even in an official relationship with the guy, so if you ever decide to become further than that, then you can decide to tell him.

I may wear the glass slippers; But my hero wears combat boots <3 I love you, Lieutenant

First, it doesn't matter if males have twins in their family. Twins aren't hereditary through males for some reason. Also, identical twins is chance. There is nothing hereditary about having identical twins.

As Shannon said, miscarriages are random or caused by that particular person's body. Miscarriages are not hereditary either.

Your risk of having twins is increased slightly since it runs on your mom's side. But if you have children before 30, you have less of a chance. Older women and women with women family members who have had twins in their family are more likely.

Tell him all of this if you would like, it shouldn't scare him off. But honestly, the only thing you need to tell him is that there is a slight risk of having twins.

Don't worry so much

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
