Pregnancy testing & weeks of pregnancy? - December 20th 2011, 01:40 AM

Everyone tells me wait until the day after your missed period.. Well I haven't missed a period yet... What happened was, on the 2nd of December, I had unprotected sex twice with the same guy. (Bad idea, I know. Please don't lecture me. I take full responsibility for my actions.)
Four days later, on the 6th, I had some light bleeding that was pinkish in color. The very next day, I got my period. It lasted about the same time as usual.

I have been told that there is a chance I may be pregnant, especially since I am experience tugging cramps in the lower abdomen. I bought a Walgreens Digital pregnancy test tonight just to be sure, and I need to know when I can take it and receive an accurate reading. I'm not due on a period for another month, so do I need to wait that long to take it?

And from when do you count the weeks of pregnancy? If someone says I may experience morning sickness six weeks into a pregnancy, do they mean six weeks from conception or six weeks from my last period?

Generally, you can take a pregnancy test about 2 weeks after unprotected sex and get an accurate result. You should take it with your first morning urine, as that's when your urine is less diluted with water and such. To answer your question, it's by the last menstrual period because from conception you're 2 weeks pregnant already. Then symptoms start appearing at different times for different women. Usually between 4 and 8 weeks they start showing symptoms of pregnancy. I doubt you're pregnant though since you've gotten your period. It's good that you're double checking though. Good luck.

I was pretty sure there was no possible way I could be pregnant, but when I talked to a few of my aunts and cousins about it, they all seemed pretty sure it could happen, because the sperm could've not implanted until after my period.
My aunt also talked to a nurse friend of hers and she says it's very possible. My cousin had regular periods up until her fourth month, and she gave birth to twins.. Personally, I highly doubt I'm pregnant, buuut better safe than sorry, right?

True. You never really know. My aunt has her period til the 5th month. I just remembered that. The body can be weird sometimes.
You're right. Better safe than sorry.

Two weeks is generally the time you can take a pregnancy test. Since it happened on the 2nd, you could take a test now and get an accurate result. However, wait until the morning to take the test. The hCG hormone, or pregnancy hormone, is more potent in the morning giving you a better chance of the RIGHT result. By morning I mean FIRST THING in the morning, with the first urine 'sample' of the day.

I'm unsure of when you begin counting the weeks. A doctor would be able to answer your question better than I could. They could approximate when conception took place, and how far along you are.
