How do I deal with a two month old baby? - December 29th 2011, 06:59 PM

I'm going on holiday tomorrow and my close friend has a baby. I agreed to babysit one night. Don't ask me why, it was a spur of the moment thing and now I am regretting saying anything at all...

So pointers on how to look after a baby would be cool ahaha thanks guys <3

To be honest, at two months, you'll be doing a lot of feeding, changing diapers, and watching the baby sleep. When it's awake, you could try reading stories/ giving it something to play with. Maybe laying it on its back and do some stretches with it

Go with the flow Babies are adorable!

At two months, you will definitely be doing feeding, diaper changing, and letting them nap. MOST of their time is spent sleeping. When they are awake, feel free to hold them a LITTLE bit and talk to them. Let them have some time on the floor with a blanket to lay on or put them in a playpen on their back.

They don't play with much at two months. They're still getting used to how to work their arms and such so they will benefit most from exercises like moving their legs in a bicycle motion while you sing or talk to them. They sometimes find this fun too.

If they cry, it may be time for a diaper change, food, or just switching up what you're doing. If they have a baby swing, these are great and relaxing for the baby. Just don't leave them in there for too long. Usually 15minutes or so is great.

I'm sure your friend will tell you the schedule and give you ideas of what the baby likes. Don't fret! They're pretty easy going at that age (unless you're the parent )

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...

Aww a two month old baby should be pretty easy if its just for one night. I never sent my son anywhere over night without a full set of "instructions" hehe, so I'm guessing the baby's mother may do the same.

Like the others said, you will mainly just be changing the baby's diaper, feeding it and watching it sleep. I would usually change my son's diaper every 2-3 hours out of habit and he may have been taking a few oz. of formula every 3-4 hours at that age, just to give you a general idea. I'm thinking he was still waking up every 3-4 hours during the night as well. (If the baby's mother doesn't give specifics on formula/breast milk amount, make sure you ask!)

Baby's at that age really just like observing and being cuddled. Expect to be carrying him/her around a decent amount. For keeping the baby entertained I suggest laying a blanket on the floor and doing some tummy time, reading books, singing songs, playing with whatever toys the baby's mother may send and just generally being silly (my son loved funny faces/noises). To be honest though, at two months they're still in that "blob" phase where they really don't do much of anything but stare and cry lol. You'll do great, have fun!

Easy as pie. Two month olds don't do much more than sleep, eat, and pee & poop. So, a lot of feedings, a lot of putting them to bed and a lot of changings. When the baby is awake, use toys with LOTS of colors in them. Babies are born color-blind, and by two months, they'll definitely be able to see bright colors. That's what attracts them to toys. Lay them down on a fresh blanket, and hold toys over their head, like rattles or those little toy keys, or anything that your friend has available. Make sure you follow the parents schedules for feedings, and sleeping as they'll have a system for their child by now.

Just enjoy your time with the baby. It will be a lot of fun, along with a learning experience.
