The Benefits of Blogging

The Benefits of Blogging
By Anonymous

Blogging has come a long way since it first began back in the mid 1990s. During that time period, before the Internet really begun to take off, blogging was limited to a small community such as university students. Today, blogging is worldwide, across various platforms, with targeted audiences for almost every niche you can imagine. It may be restricted to family and friends—in which the blog would be marked private—it could be for business and profit—such as selling product and merchandise—or it could be as a hobby—such as cooking or DIY.

Today, blogging has many benefits, even if you don’t have a full purpose in mind for it. If you would rather create a password-protected blog with entries only visible to yourself and maybe a few select people in your life you trust, then that is fine too. Many people have this image in their minds when it comes to creating a blog: you must have a niche, you must have an audience, you must do it to make a profit. This is absolutely not true at all!

A lot of people know what free writing is, and blogging is a wonderful way to de-clutter your thoughts. For those who don't know, free writing is a practice utilized by English teachers, similar to brainstorming but with complete sentences and paragraphs.

If you have a lot on your mind and keep losing train of thought, or the thoughts are so overwhelming it’s beginning to give you a headache, then open up a document on your preferred word-editing program or blogging platform. It certainly does help to get your thought process sorted out.

Not only does blogging help de-clutter your thoughts; it also helps to reinforce your brain, because it is a good exercise in compartmentalizing different ideas. It benefits your writing skills as well, because you can practice your English—or whatever language you choose to write in—skills long after you’re out of school.

Free writing in your blogs is also a good method to get your creative “juices” going. When you write for a certain period, something worthy of being shared is bound to come out. It can be in an angry tone, whimsical, silly, or whatever emotion you are feeling. The most important thing is this: don’t think too much when writing!

The other thing blogging can be beneficial towards is improving your professional skills, especially if you do a lot of writing for university or your place of employment. Taking the time to write in a mature narrative in a blog helps strengthen your role as a member of a professional environment. In university, it gives you the chance to write stronger essays and points of argument, leading to better overall grades.

The benefits of blogging can be really useful from those who are professionals who simply write as a hobby. Blogging to de-clutter your brain or to reinforce your thoughts is something that you may enjoy, especially if you are filled with stress or anxiety a lot of times. In that aspect, it can be used for therapeutic purposes. What it really comes down to, blogging truly does serve multiple purposes.
