What does it feel like? Not the love you feel for family or close friends, but 'true love'. How do you know when you like some one? I've been having trouble figuring it out since my last crush crushed me. I've already completely forgotten what it feels like.
I feel like the night, so dark, and quiet
I feel like the wind, Charging forward foolishly with out thought
I feel like the snow, cold and strange
I feel like a wolf, a lonely song calling out
I feel like the moon, Alone and afraid
Pulled towards something much greater than I
I think you'll find a variety of answers to this question, because there is no right or wrong answer to it.
To me love is: a sense of security, a feeling as if I'm cloud 9. I can stand across the room and look, and instantly fall back in love with my boyfriend of 2.5 years just by seeing him smile. It's being able to be yourself around that person, with no judgement. Someone who will be there for you, no matter what the circumstances. Love to me is something I will always be able to depend on. I'm a great believer in love, and will be until the day I die.
I may wear the glass slippers; But my hero wears combat boots <3 I love you, Lieutenant

If someone is a "crush", then I don't believe you're really in love with them - or in your words, you're not experiencing "true love". You're experiencing something more like infatuation. Love is something that develops over time. It's a feeling that can't be put into words, but you'll know it when you feel it. It goes beyond falling heads over heels for someone.
To me love is wanting to do anything for that person just to see them smile. When the person you love cries you cry with them. Sometimes it's a negative thing because you can love someone so much it's near impossible for you to walk away from the relationship even if you two may love each other it isn't necessarily good for you to be together.
Love is undescribable. It'll make you feel your best, and at times, your worst. Its intense. Its strong. Its consistent and filling.
I like this quote about love from a film called Lost & Delirious. It doesn't really tell you how it feels to be in love, but I like it nonetheless (the 'Liar' part at the beginning is responded to claims other characters were making):
Liar! Liar, Liar, Liar! You've all got your heads up your assholes because love is. It just is and nothing you can say can make it go away because it is the point of why we are here, it is the highest point and once you are up there, looking down on everyone else, you're there forever. Because if you move, right, you fall. You fall.
fell in love with my best friend someone i could live with for the rest of my life. Been a 4 year relationship with someone i could stay true to for the rest of my life. and if you spend a week or a month or a year away from them, in time when you see them again, you feel such a strong feeling of emotions and happiness. Me and my girlfriend have never had sex so what we have together is legit and untampered nor misunderstood. Clear and greatfull always loving never lustful or selfish in anyway. A connection i have never had with any other human being.
Love is the single best, and most devastating feeling in the world. It develops with a relationship and in my experience takes a while.
I agree with Robin, in that what you are feeling just now is infatuation. That isn't to say that it won't develop into love, but I think when you're unsure of your feelings, its not love. You will know when you're in love. It's like floating on cloud nine when it's good, but when it's bad... it's like having the worst punishment imaginable.

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
~ The Buddha
It's a comforting, euphoric feeling that consumes you and you know that you adore that person with every fiber of your being. You compliment eachother, help eachother to grow, push eachother to achieve things with the comfort of knowing someone is there for you if you fall. Cheezy as it sounds, you just know when you're in love! For me it wasn't after some big romantic gesture or anything, we were together just doing everyday, normal, stuff and it hit me that I could spend everyday for the rest of my life just doing this 'normal' 'boring' stuff with that person and I would be in a perfect bliss! It is by far the best and the worst thing in the world cause when it hurts, it really hurts! But the pain is worth it
I thought the exact same thing when I saw the title.
Anyway.. I agree with what was said about love being undescribable. It can be both an amazing feeling as well as a horrible feeling, I think but at the end of everything, it's always going to be worth it. You'll know when you're in love as well, it isn't something that comes on and you know, it's something that happens over time and when you feel it, you'll know because it's that strong of a feeling.
Love is almost indescribable. Lou does a fantastic job at explaining it.
But really, you know when you're in love. You don't have to question it.
And from my experience, crushes aren't love. They still hurt when you're crushed by a crush.
But if you were in love, you would literally feel like your heart is being ripped out of you.
It's the worst pain I've ever felt.
