Is it really that bad to kiss a smoker?

There's this guy I really like. We've been working together for a few months now; we're both 18. He and I are going on a date this weekend and I'm slightly nervous. He smokes; he's trying to quit, but he still smokes a few a day. I would like to kiss him, but I'm afraid it'll taste bad!

Please say if you've actually kissed a smoker, or if you're going off of what you've heard.

I'd really like to kiss him... I just want to know what I'm in for!

well at least ask him to use some mouth spray of some sort if you don't like it....ask me in a nice manner, don't come off as angry when you ask him though.

I smoke, but my boyfriend doesn't. He says he hates it because I smell like smoke, not that I taste like it. I'm usually courteous, and brush my teeth before doing any kind of sexual activity with him.

It all depends on how much you like/dislike the taste and the time between both activities. I've kissed a few smokers, and I generally never notice a taste unless its directly after they've been smoking. But then again, I like the taste and smell of cigarettes, so it may be different for you!
A good way to avoid this is to have some breath mints, take one for yourself, and offer him one. It won't seem like you're trying to take away the taste if you have one too [: Gum or something else minty could replace the mints as well

My boyfriend smokes once in a while, but when I kissed him, I never tasted anything bad, I could just smell his breath.

Normally when with a smoker you smell it. Ive been with a smoker before and I didn't tast anything.

I prefer my boyfriend not to smoke, but ever since we've been together, he hasn't really smoked. At least, he hasn't told me. Either way, I honestly don't really care. I think what you think matters. Not what everyone else thinks..to put it simply. Lots of people smoke. I don't think it's right, but society is what it is. If it was me going on this date, I would tell him that I prefer he didn't smoke during the date because it's not exactly your forte. However, that's up to you. Good luck!

My boyfriend smokes and he really only smells like it if it is recent after he has smoked. Otherwise it's no different than if he doesn't smoke.

Like everyone else has said you don't taste the smoke you can just smell it. My boyfriend smokes all the time and I've never tasted anything different when I've kissed him. It's really not bad at all. I think people just tell smokers that kissing them is "like kissing an ash tray" because they think it might motivate them to quit.

I don't know. I don't think I could really be with someone who smoked, because I'm sensitive to smells like that, and I've been elbow deep in butts before (Anti-smoking project)

^^ I say tell him your worried, but from the other answers, I doubt you'll taste anything.

You'll be repulsed by the smell, especially if he's only just had one. The smell usually fades within half an hour or so, I believe (that's what my ex-girlfriend told me - "I won't kiss for another half an hour" after everytime I had a cigarette). Just try to time it right.
