Question I have a Valentine idea, but is it any good? - January 29th 2012, 01:05 AM

I want to make Valentine's day really special, not the cliche box of chocolates and a teddy bear. I wanted to make something for my boyfriend, since I'm an artistic person, but I just didn't know what to do and I didn't want to look ideas up because I want it to be something I thought of. Well, here's what I have.

I do many different kinds of art, and one of them is poetry. I've written my guy a couple in the past, and he loved them. So, I thought I'd write a poem, but it needed to be a little something more. I thought about doing a message in a bottle. That seemed a little plain, so I thought about filling the bottle with something along with the poem. I thought and thought, and remembered I had a ton of small-ish decorative stones, like the ones you buy at wal mart, left over from an old project I'd started. I thought about putting them in the bottle, but it wasn't enough. Then I thought about carving a heart in one stone, "I love you" in another, smiley faces in others, etc etc. Wrapped up inside the message in the bottle, I want to put something in there that has a special meaning to me. Obviously it would have to be something relatively small, but I'm thinking about what to put in. I still feel like I'm missing something! Does anyone have ideas that could finish it? Also, is my idea any good?

Oh, and I'm also making him a funny card. I'm going to draw a little cartoon me on the front, looking sad. It'll say "Jon, I'm sorry I can't give you my heart for Valentine's day..." and when he opens it, the cartoon me will be laying down passed out and it will say "Cuz if I did that, I'd die." It sounds stupid, but with his sense of humor I know he'll love it.

Anyway, ideas?

I love the card idea. Funny valentines day cards are the best. I almost always make humerous ones, my boyfriend and I are both kind of sarcastic, so I one time wrote the most cliche "Roses are red" poem just to be funny. Stuff like that.

I really like the rocks idea, make sure they're small enough to fit in the bottle! I also thought candy would be a good idea if somehow the rocks don't work out, jelly beans, or something he likes. If you end up doing the rocks, and want to put one more thing in there, maybe you can print out a little picture of you guys or get a print one to have in there so when he dumps it out it will be there. Maybe some type of wrapped candy that would fit, I'm not sure how big your bottle cap is, but something wrapped like Hershey's kisses.

Very cute idea! I love how creative you are. Japanese lunches and fancy valentines, I pack my boyfriend pbj sandwiches and I think I'm getting him candy and that's it. for valentines You win. Bahaha.

That's going to be really cute! I especially like the card idea! lol

If he likes candy, you could get those personalized M&M's and put those in the bottle? You could get your names put on them or even pictures of you two together. They are around $20 for the ones with messages on them; probably a little more if you put pictures on them. If that's out of your price range, and if he really really likes sugar, you could also put fun dip or colored sugar inside to make it look like sand- which goes with the whole message in a bottle/ocean theme.

You could also go to a craft store and get beads or charms shaped like things that relate to your relationship. For example, if I were doing this for my boyfriend, I would get little beads shaped like frogs and ducks (we have an inside joke about running away to the forest together and becoming frogs/ducks), a bible to symbolize that God brought us together, hearts for obvious reasons, etc. I'm sure you wouldn't think of enough bead shape ideas to fill up a whole bottle, so you could even do that AND the carved rocks.

I hope this helps.
