You didn't say you liked him for 3 years, only that you talked to him for that long. :c That sucks, I'm sorry! I know what it's like to be "friend-zoned" by someone you've liked for a while. If you want to still be his friend, then I'd suggest trying to get over the crush somehow. Unfortunately the best way to do that is to avoid all contact with the person for a while and do your own thing.

But if, like you said, you don't want to be "just friends" with him, depending on how good of friends you really are, if I were you I'd try to talk it out with him. But that's only if you two have actually been close friends for this three year time, and not just a crush from afar or something like that.
