It could be the motherboard or more likely the PSU (stock desktops usually have scandalously crap PSU's...). You could replace either yourself but if it's a desktop you should expect it to be able to run for at least a year
24/7. The laws are hazy (
6 months is the only
mandatory product life) but breaking down after a year is definitely abnormal.
