I understand what James means when he says that you weren't an item even if you did like each other but I also believe that what your friend did wasn't really fair because as you said, she was telling you how she wanted to be with someone else and didn't like this guy but as soon as she finds out you two like each other she's in there like a flash to ruin it. I'm guessing she could have done this out of jealously, she probably thought after she heard that that you two were going to become an item and she didn't want to be left without anyone so she stepped in and started to flirt with Danny.

I would suggest talking to her, ask her why she did what she did because it hurt you and it wasn't right that she was telling you one thing and then she goes and does another, especially if she is your friend.
