Our US History teacher has given us an essay to write on the three amendments of the Hartford Convention and how they would have changed the situation in 1814.
The problem is, I don't get the whole thing!
1) Why couldn't New England propose the Convention once the War of 1812 was over? Did it matter?
2) An amendment stated that slave be eliminated from population count for House representations. Does that mean if you have more population in your state you get more votes? And WHAT IS THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIONS?
3) Another amendment stated that two thirds vote is required from the Congress to declare war or admit a new state. So the Congress didn't work that way? They didn't go with the majority? (2/3 would be majority...so if they propose this, were they implying that the Congress DIDN'T go with the majority when they voted on the War of 1812? HOW DID THE CONGRESS WORK anyway?)
4) Limit the president to a single term? So they could get Madison off the stage as quickly as possible? (Was Madison on his first term during the War of 1812?) and why does it matter if 2 presidents in succession came from the same state? and how would that have changed the situation in towards the end of the war?
I'm in URGENT NEED of these answers...if you can answer any questions up there, please do, I'll be really grateful!
THANKS!!!!
