tattoo tomorrow -
October 3rd 2016, 06:10 PM
so I'm getting my first tattoo tomorrow, booked, deposit payed. I think I may puke with nerves, I mean it could hurt a lot. It's my outside ankle, does that hurt a lot? Also is putting moisturizer on it a good idea?
Certain areas hurt more than others. For instance I've heard that ankles hurt more than certain other areas. I got my first tattoo on the calf and it wasn't too bad.
My friend puked when she got hers on her wrist so I guess puking is okay.
Generally the artists will let you take a break if needed. My artist took three breaks which was also SUPER helpful for me. I also told him when I started to feel sick during the three-hour mark and he was very accommodating with that, letting me lay down and getting me water and such. So just tell them how you're feeling and they'll try to help
Bring snacks, or at least orange juice to keep your sugar up.
As far as moisturizing goes, ask your artist what they recommend. Mine told me to use A&D ointment on it for about a week about 3x a day and then start applying a scentless lotion.

Good luck with your tattoo! What are you getting done?
I agree with the poster above though, usually tattooist epect nerves and chances are they've dealt with some very uncomfortable customers before you! Be honest with them and tell them if the pain is getting too much and you need a moment. They may be able to offer you a drink or some time to collect yourself enough to carry on.
I think where you get it done and how much is hurts differ from person to person. I don't have any tattoos myself but I've heard that areas where the skin is quite thin - such as ankles - can be more painful as there's less padding and the bone is so prominent. However, I know people who have said that it didn't hurt them personally at all! So it really will depend on your threshold for pain and how sensitive the skin is there for you. Like I say, be honest with them. Let them know if it is too painful, many of them have had painful tattoos done themselves and will definitely understand.

Yep, you're right there! Normally areas like the ankles hurt more for that reason - the bone is more prominent and there's less skin there. That's probably part of the reason why my calf tattoo didn't hurt badly but my friend's wrist tattoo did. I'm getting two tattoos at the end of the month, one on the calf and one on the shoulder blade and I expect the shoulder blade to hurt more because of the prominent bone.

Bit late but my first tat was on my ankle and I didn't find it that painful. Getting my third next week on my collar bones too! Let us know how you found it

I chickened out, I starting shaking like a leaf and in the end had to say no I can't. The friend I was with then had hers done and said it wasn't too bad (and this was on her ribs) so I'm going back at some point. Good thing I walked out anyway, I was so nervous I didn't notice the artist put the stencil on at the wrong angle.

It is scary getting a tattoo (I don't have one though ).
Have you got a photo of what you want to get done?
