I know alcohol is of the form . There are two lone pairs on the oxygen atom and the COH bond is 109 degrees.
A lot of them are toxic, ethanol (R=CH3CH2) is among the safest. They are used in ester formation and can undergo dehydration to the corresponding alkene. Primary and secondary alcohols can be oxidised using acidified potassium dichromate (VI) (K2Cr2O7) to an aldehyde then a carboxylic acid (under reflux) for primary alcohols and a ketone for secondary alcohols.
