I've had sex with my girlfriend while she's on her period. It took a while to convince her that I genuinely wasn't bothered by it and she's much more comfortable with the idea now. She only lets me use a toy though, she doesn't like my hands or face near her leaky bits when they're leaking. I'm on the pill and don't get periods on it so we've never done anything when I'm on my period, but I wouldn't be against it under the same conditions she has set out.

If her flow is really heavy then maybe put a towel down just so no one has to sleep in a wet spot, but there really isn't much difference other than that. Not to mention orgasms have been proven to help cramps.
