Re: Humboldt Broncos bus crash - March 29th 2019, 02:04 AM

He was sentenced to a total of approximately 193 years but he will not serve that. He will be serving the first sentence of 8 years. However, he will be eligible for parole after he has served 1/3 of his sentence (2.5 years) and will get statutory release (mandated by law) after he has served 2/3 of his sentence (around 5 years).
This is because the judge sentenced him concurrently which means he will serve all the sentences at the same time. If he was sentenced to a consecutive sentence, then he would have to finish the sentence for one offence before starting the next sentence. The judge did not use a consecutive sentence because the offences all occurred from the same circumstances so a concurrent sentence was appropriate.
