Rest in Peace, French Tost.

Also TW: Suicide

Today I found French Toast in her cage, dead. I didn't even get to say goodbye because I didn't know she was going to die. I feel so guilty about that right now,. I loved her so much. I always said if she died, I died. I do want to get her ashes back to me before I do anything. She had a lot of health issue she was battling, so she fought ag good fight. I feel broken.

Hi Dez,

I’m so incredibly sorry to hear about French Toast. Losing a pet is a heartbreak that’s hard to put into words. They aren’t just animals — they’re family, constant companions, and little pieces of our everyday lives. When they’re gone, the silence feels heavier, routines feel different, and even the smallest things can bring a wave of grief.

I truly sympathize with what you’re going through. I’ve experienced the deep loss of a pet myself, and I know how real and overwhelming that grief can be. It’s not “just a pet.” It’s the loss of unconditional love, shared moments, and a bond that was uniquely yours.

Please be gentle with yourself as you move through this. There’s no right timeline for grieving, and it’s okay to feel however you’re feeling — whether that’s sadness, numbness, or all of it at once. French Toast was clearly loved, and that love doesn’t disappear.

If you ever need someone to listen, to share memories, or even just to sit in the sadness with you, my inbox is always open. You don’t have to carry it alone.
