Is it self harm?

Hey when I get anxious I stratch at my wrist. Enough to hurt mildly but the marks go away within 10 minutes. When talking about going without self harm would this count as self harm? And when my therapist asks how often I self harm would this be worth mentioning as I do other things that are actually visible the next day only about once a week. But I do milder things that don't leave marks about twice a day.

Re: Is it self harm?

Since you are a self-harmer and do things other then cutting or whatever then I would say yes. I mean if you do it to cause pain and to bring you back to real life or whatever then yes it is considered SH. I don't think SH has to leave a mark.

"Self-injury, also called self-harm, is the act of deliberately harming your own body, such as cutting or burning yourself. It's typically not meant as a suicide attempt. Rather, self-injury is an unhealthy way to cope with emotional pain, intense anger and frustration."

So by the definition yes it is Self-harm.

I think this would count as self harm, yes. Anything that you do for the purpose of feeling pain counts. This thread can tell you what is and what is not self harm, and scratching is on the list. I think this is worth mentioning to your therapist.

Hope that helped,
