Selective Eating Disorder?

I've been doing some research and I've come to believe that I have selective eating disorder. I've been like this all my life, and everything fits perfectly. I would just like to know more information about it, anything that would help me with it. Anything about it, really. I need help with it, it could very well ruin my life and I don't want that to happen.

Re: Selective Eating Disorder?

Hi Meg,

We cannot diagnose you with any eating disorder, since we do not have the qualifications to do so. I'd also recommend you not use any resources to self-diagnose. If you suspect you have an eating disorder, see your doctor/dietitian/nutritionist. They will be able to give you a proper diagnosis.

However, for just information about this disorder, I'll let you know my knowledge about it. Selective Eating Disorder is a diagnosis currently not in the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual) so if diagnosed with this disorder, people are usually diagnosed in an EDNOS category. It is something usually seen in children, who are just picky, and usually leaves no health (physical or mental) scarring. However, it can be in adults, and it can be dangerous depending on its level of severity, leading to OCD, or other eating disorders.

For more information, I found this great article about it, discussing its possibility of becoming a "real" disorder. Good luck, I hope this helps!
