Is this an eating disorder?

Firstly I wasn't sure where to put this so move it if it's in the wrong place.

Everyone is a picky eater to some extent but I take it to the extreme. I pretty much only eat potatos, certain types of rice and quorn chicken. I'm absolutely terrified of trying new foods/drinks and I won't do it. This seems to be getting worse and I've just got even pickier as I've grown up.

Is this an eating disorder? Or is this normal?

Hey there,

We cannot diagnose you with an eating disorder, here on TeenHelp. We are not professionals and do not have the power. However, from my little knowledge about health, being that I am not a doctor and just a undergraduate studying Psychology, you may be using these eating habits as an excuse not to eat. I've heard of a lot of people using picky habits in order not to have to eat food they do not want to, or using vegetarianism or a lactose intolerance in order to get out of eating. So if you believe you may be doing it, that may be a problem. It is also unhealthy to only eat these foods, you need a much wider variety in your diet in order for it to be healthy.

If you are worried about possibly having an eating disorder, please, see a doctor. I hope what I said helped! Good luck!

Like Traci said, we can't diagnose you with an Eating Disorder, as none of us are doctors here. The fact that you're terrified of trying new things sounds more like an anxiety issue than an eating disorder. Traci does bring up a good point. Are you using the pickiness as an excuse not to eat? My best suggestion is that you talk to a doctor about this. They can set you up with a healthy diet that you're comfortable with, and diagnose you with anything you might have.
