LGBTQ Prom & Parents

There's an LGBTQ prom hosted in my area on Saturday and I really want to go. However, since coming out I've never talked about the elephant in the room with my parents. . . We let the fact that I'm gay dwindle away, and since that day we've NEVER spoke about it. :( I worry that they might not take it well if I wanted to go to one but. . . I really do want to. I want to meet other LGBTQ youth and I just. . . Want to get involved in the "community."

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I could talk to my mom, frankly, about going?

Just simply say you want to go to another prom that you were interested in/invited to/have the ability to go to. You don't or even shouldn't have to mention that it's for LGBTQ+. The only thing that's important is that you're happy and actually want to go. Other than that, no one has to know all the details unless you willingly give it to them.

That's just the thing - - My mother won't let me go unless she has all the information involving it. :\

Just be frank with her. It's best I get it out of the way than beat around the bush. Plus your mom might want to talk about how she feels. You're not the only one who's scared. However, have a back-up plan if she reacts strongly. Maybe talk to a friend you can go to, or a trusted adult. She also might refuse to take you, so you might also talk to a friend who can take you without her knowing, though I don't recommend this highly.
Best of luck!

I honestly would sit her down and explain to her that there is the LGBT Prom and you want to go to it. Be completely honest with her and tell her the reasons on why you want to go. Don't beat around the bush and try and BS any of the information just tell her straight up. Hopefully she will let you go.
