did i deserve a saturday detention for getting 3 detentions in a term ?

I go to a good but VERY strict school in england our school detention policy says that anty student getting 3 detentions in a term will automatically go into a 4 hour 30 min satuday detention. well last tuesday i kept messing about in my maths class my teacher told me several times to behave or she would give me a detention, i ignored her and threw a paper plane across the classroom , she then shouted RIGHT THATS IT DETENTION 1 AND A HALF HOURS FRIDAY EVENING it was only at the end of the lesson that i remembered this would be my 3rd detention this term which means satuday detention, i went up to my teacher and said how sorry i was and begged her to let me off , she said NO as i had been warned several times to behave but ignored the warnings, so therefore deserved the satuday detention. last satuday i served my saturday detention it was MISREABLE , he is the timetable
8:45 am REGISTRATION AND SCHOOL UNIFORM INSPECTION , we had to be smartly dressed our white school shirts had to be ironed our collars done up ties neat and tidy shoes polished and school blazer done up,
9am--11am PUNISHMENT ESSAYS we had to sit at our desks in TOTAL silence and write an essay on why we were being punished, i had to write an essay on why its unacceptable to get 3 detentions in a term
11am --11:15 am 15 mute break
11:15am--13 :15 PUNISHMENT ESSAYS back to our desks and write an essay on what we had learned from satuday detention.
13:15 am TIDY CLASSROOM BEFORE GOING HOME we had to pick up any litter before we could go home.
saturday detention was a misreable experiance my parents said i deserved it what do you think ?

Yeah, you're not getting any sympathy from me. :)


Let's focus on what happened last Tuesday. You were fooling around, were told to cut it out, and you basically said "screw you!" to the teacher. Not only that, you threw something! I don't know if you meant for it to hit the teacher or not; but it still could have struck someone in the face and I get the odds are very slim, caused an injury to someone's eye.


If I were the teacher, I would've held up the class (no thanks to your foolishness) and brought you, or have another student do it, straight to the principal's office. You should've been expelled for the day, at the very least. That teacher was being very generous when she gave you detention.


It doesn't sound like you've learned anything or feel the least bit remorseful. So, no, you are not getting any sympathy from me.


I have no further comment, hopefully someone else will come along with advice. Mine would be to grow up.

Honestly, to answer your question..

Yes, After 3 detentions, 3 Opportunities to learn from your mistake on how you behaved at school, and nothings changed? I can see why they do things this way.
Its to give you an opportunity to reflect on your actions, and try to get you to realize that your actions are not okay.
By the sound of it it did nothing to help you learn from that.
School is to learn, make friends, and grow so you can live your life and know about things you may need in life to make it outside of school.
As much as that is not something you want to hear right now, it is the truth, your there to learn not act out.

Detention sucks for sure, but it seems like you were given plenty of chances to change your behavior and didn't do it. The consequences were made aware to you and you still fooled around and broke the rules. I get that it can be hard to focus in class sometimes, but the more you continue to misbehave the worse the punishments you'll have. If you behave, you won't lose time on your Saturday. If you're having a hard time not acting on your impulses maybe you can ask a teacher or school counselor for tips on how to control yourself in class.

i am not saying i sholdnt have been punished i must admit i did deserve the normal 1 and a half hour detention , what i am moaning about is the saturday detention, i know 3 detentions in a term is a lot but i dont think i deserved the saturday detention , it was MISREABLE we had to wear full school uniform people on the bus were looking at me as if they knoew i was being punished , the detention itself was VERY VERY long and boring writing essays for 4 hours is not fun, plus i still had to serve the normal detention on the friday which lasted for 1 and a half hours, aand once again we had to write a punishment essay on why we got detention , after detention i took off my blazer and tie, my angry mum picked me up from the saturday detention , she made me put my tie and blazer back on , then took me shopping in my full school uniform , this was her punishment to me for getting a satuday detention , i did not get out of my school uniform until 4pm surly i didnt deserve this much punishment ?

It’s a school policy. If they made an exception for you they would have to make an exception for every student that misbehaves. Detention isn’t supposed to be fun. Of course it’s boring, and of course they want to make you do some type of work. And it’s reasonable that your mom is punishing you too. I know my parents wouldn’t have even let ONE detention slide. I’d have been punished by them immediately. I know it sucks but these were the consequences for your own actions.

yes my parents didnt know about the other 3 normal detentions , they only knew about the saturday detention because i got a letter sent home, as if i wasnt punished enough i still had to serve the original 1 hour 30 minute detention that my maths teacher, again we all had to write a punishment essay t, this time on the importance of obeying school rules, so i lost my friday evening and also my satuday, wearing a school uniform on a satuday is not fun, my mum took me round all the shops people wearing staring, she even made me wear it when i got home, she said i deserved it for getting so many detentions, what do you think ?

I can see that being embarrassing, but not necessarily the end of the world. If she was abusive with her punishments (such as calling you derogatory names or hitting you) that would be one thing. If it's of any reassurance I bet if anyone really was looking at you they've probably forgotten about it by now or haven't really brought it up since. It's not such an exciting/interesting thing where someone would go home and be like, "Wow, there was a person at the shops wearing a school uniform." They've probably stopped caring by now.

yes you are right, but my mum made me wear it when i got home, this was her way of grounding me, she knows i am not going to go out with my friends on a saturday evening in my school uniform ?

It’s her choice whether you go out with your friends or not as a punishment for something like detention while you’re a minor under her roof. I think it’s reasonable you couldn’t go out with your friends after having multiple detentions including the Saturday one.

Look, you keep adding to your sob story but it's clear you're not getting sympathy from anyone.


Detention is a child's play punishment. When you go out there in the real world, there are greater consequences like paying fines and going to jail. Honestly, I think the school should've expelled you for at least a day for throwing a projectile object, whether or not it was intended to strike anyone.


I think it was very odd your mother brought you shopping because my mother would've picked me up, brought me straight home, and sent me to my room. No TV, no phone, no computer. Absolutely nothing, maybe a little bite to eat if she felt generous enough. I would do the same to my kid.


Who cares you were made to wear your school uniform to the shops and after you got home? It seems to me you're only looking for sympathy when it's clear that you have not learned anything from the detention you served. Instead, you're just complaining about the supposed inhumane treatment.


I admire your mother, she deserves Mother of the Year (or Month) award. Go mama!

I believe that after three opportunities, then a Saturday detention is something that should happen. Always. I wish it was something that teachers can do here.

I am sorry you feel the way you do about the situation. Although everyone is right.

Being as your a minor, the things you mom is doing as punishment is normal things mothers do when there child gets in trouble, being grounded, not going out with friends, even making you keep you uniform on. Its all things she is doing to try to get you to understand what you did was wrong. It is normal for a mother to have rules about things like this and to punish you as she sees fit, and from what your saying all the things she is doing is pretty light punishment compared to what other parents would do if the same situation was done by there child.

I know it sucks, but its a life lesson you'll need to learn. Have you thought about why she is punishing you, or do you regret doing what you did to get there detentions?

That is what she is trying to get you to understand, she wants you to regret what you did, because as most mothers want there child to learn from there mistakes, its part of life, to make mistakes learn from them and go on with life better than you were before. She is just trying to raise you right.

The big thing here is did you learn anything from the punishment, do you regret doing what you did, and going forward will you make better choices on how you act at school ?

no you dont understand she said i could go out with my friends, but i would have to wear my full school uniform , including tie and blazer. my mum knew full well that i wouldnt go out on a saturday in my uniform, therefore i couldnt go out, my mum sais thats a light punishment for getting so many detentions, i thought it was mean what do you think ?

i am not saying i should escape punishment , i accept i deserved the original 1 hour 30 minute detention which was held on a friday evening, i got home from school at 5 :20 then my mum made me stay in , no going out just homework , then she made me iron my clean white school shirt for the next days satuday detention, the next day saturday i my mum woke me up early i had to get the bus in full school uniform , as i said after 4 hours 30 minutes of TOTAL boredom and essay writing in detention, my mum picked me up from school , i had already taken off my tie and blazer, she made me put them back on and then walked me around the shops, when we got home she said i MUST keep my school uniform for the rest of the day including tie and blazer, she said this was a mild punishment from her for getting too many detentions, of course how was i supposed to go out with friends in school uniform so i had to stay in, i think this was too harsh dont you ?

yes i have learned i wont be getting a satuday detention again it was TERRIBLE over 4 hours of total boredom just writing essays , now my mum knows how much i hate wearing my school uniform on a non school day she is now going to use that as a future punishment, she said if i get just 1 normal detention , she will take away all my clothes for a whole weekend and force me to wear my school uniform as a punishment is this fair ?

It isn’t really the end of the world. It may not be a punishment you like, but who likes being punished? :nosweat:

now my mum knows how much i hate wearing my school uniform on a non school day , she said if i get anymore detentions she is going to take away my clothes and make me wear my full school uniform for a whole weekend, i would hate that ?

Of course, anyone would hate having to wear their school uniform when they're not in school. But even if people see you in it, it's not so entertaining that they're going to go home and talk to their families about it. I'm sure there are much more interesting things they can talk about :nosweat:

Honestly, yes all the things your mom is doing is very fair for punishment, its actually not as bad of a punishment as some might get.
If It was me, my son would of lost all access to games, phone, tablet. Lots of parents usually take away electronics and only allow school work, books.

I think your getting off pretty easy this time around, If it happens again it could be worse punishment, not just having to wear a uniform for a few day.

Id say your pretty lucky with how you mom is handling this.
