Panic Attacks

So i've been having a lot of panic attacks lately, 4 in the past 2 1/2 days. I don't know what to do. I got sent home early from school for having one because I just couldn't calm down, and when I get upset, I get anxious, then a panic attack comes, and most of the time if people try to talk to me it ends up a psychotic breakdown. From A to B is rapid-fire. I'm on two anti-psychotics right now, a control substance for PTSD, and impulse-control/adhd med(I don't have adhd). I don't know why my panic attacks have been coming back again.... what should I do to try to cope with them in the moment?

I'm really sorry to hear what you have been through. Panic attacks are never fun. The only thing that I can suggest is breathing through them and trying to find the triggers of these attacks. Once you have, is there someone that you trust that is able to help you work through your triggers as well as when you are having a panic attack?

So I was able to find a few triggers and my safety teacher(504 plan) I told her and she was really understanding and is making me complete different assignments and places to be whenever those triggers appear so I can prevent a panic attack. She understood so freaking well it was crazy.

I'm so glad this teacher understood you and that there was a solution! It sounds like she is a great support system for you so I strongly encourage you to continue to talk to her about what's going on. She's there to help!

That's wonderful to hear that your teacher was so understanding.

Re: Panic Attacks

Benzodiazepine drugs like xanax can help, but only if prescribed in the short term. Then seek therapy to target panic attacks. What is your controlled substance for ptsd? If it is a benzo and you have been on it long term, it may have actually contributed to the panic attack. But I think it is more likely just a case of growing up. Get a short script for a benzo and then seek therapy.

Im on klonopin myself. It only takes a month of daily use to become physically dependant. Im split between regretting that decision and enjoying the beneficial effects. Try using only on bad days. That would probably be best. I have to take it everyday now or I have withdrawal effects. Benefits do wane over time, but dont completely go away. Took an effort to get down from more than once a day to just once daily. Now when I have a bad day, I take the multiple doses that I am prescribed and that has me doing better than when I took the multiple doses daily. I stopped being able to feel anything from it when I did it that way.

So i've been on it for a few months, my highest dose only being 2.5mg I believe, I'm on a 0.25 dose right now as they're trying to get me off of it.

That is great. Sounds like they had you on a proper short term regiment, which is ideal. AND they are giving you a taper from just that regiment, which is fantastic. Seems like you have a doctor who very much knows what they are doing. Some are less than educated or empathetic about discontinuing benzos. Hope you find a long term solution though.
