College Issues

I am in a slump, an extreme non-interest-don't-give-a-crap, slump. I am mostly fed up with College and education altogether. I went into the wrong program thinking it's for me. It wasn't. I have no skill in art or have the patience for. I failed one class already and might fail the other. Whatever.

My GPA probably sucks.

I am switching Programs and the Program I am in, well won't allow me to do certain things. Again, I will only be doing four classes. I'm beginning to think if I don't smarten up I will never get into the Program I want next fall. I did so well in my other two classes because it was research and write-ups.

I have to do this presentation slides thing and record my voice. That is the last final thing I need to do, it's due tonight.

I had to cancel my presentation this morning (I really enjoy giving presentations) because I had a job interview so I bull shitted my Professor so she allowed me to record my voice and put it in the presentation.

I feel this is a waste of my time to keep going to next term. Thinking of just dropping out. After 6 months it's required that I start paying back my student loan. Well, I can't just drop out because no way in hell I want them to say, "you can't apply for student loans because of your last one..." or some bull shit excuse.

So, I am doing classes in this Program I have switched to, to get credits and get by. I hope these classes allow me to increase my GPA. I wont hear back from the other Program till mid-Febuary or early March and I will cry if I don't get in.

On top of this, first year and first term alone was complete BS drama from students who just came out of high school and I had to listen to them complain and bitch. So what did I do, decided to not go to my classes. I did the work online. One of my classes I only missed 3 days. My one I never showed up for 3 months and I failed that class. I failed it because I wasn't spending money on one single class each week for something I will never use ever.

I am not sure if anyone else has run into these problems. At this point I'm going ahead and applying to work for full time. Don't care much for College anymore.

Re: College Issues

Sometimes, people need to spend some time re-evaluating their goals (not just short-term, but long-term... do you know what you want to do career-wise?). If this current program isn't a good fit for you, then it's important to think about your other options. Have you talked to an academic advisor about switching to the other program you're interested in? Have you read up on loans and what your options are if you decide to take a break and work full-time while you figure things out academically? More importantly, have you begun to think about your "Plan B" (back-up option if getting into the other program doesn't work)?

Thank you for the reply Robin:

(I had saw a career and academic counselor at the College. I took a test that basically said I have no interests in less I try it out, experience my dislikes and likes.)

In my current Program (September-December) I dropped two courses and stayed in the other 4 and reduced my course load. Out of the 4 I only really liked two, but the one some aren't I disliked. For Janurary-April, I am in a Program that interests me to a certain degree. However, I am just doing it for the extra credits. I saw a program about bartending (which is more appealing because I can work and get a job fast with the certificate while in College) but the courses I am unsure if I will excel well at. I am going to e-mail Student Success Specialist about.

I can't seem to make up my mind. With the 15 week certificate program for bartendering I can make more in wages and tips.

In the long run I would like to have a career in writing. No, I haven't planned for a second option if I don't get into the program. But, if I switch into the bartending certificate program I can work and then improve my credits for that course.

Right now I hope my interview I did Friday morning landed me a position and she was very clear she is going to call me and stated I will start in January if I get the job. However, I based my timetable on when I can work and switching programs might reflect differently and I will change my hours to work... If I go for bartendering (which provides more opportunities and fast cash) then I may lose the job (I they hire me).

This is so confusing.
