School ISSUE

3 days into senior year and I'm already over-whelmed...

I am struggling with anxiety, major depression, an eating disorder, and my psychologist believes bipolar too.

Anyways, during the day I go through mood swings. I'll go from "base line" where I'm not great but I'm not terrible but then my mood will just sky rocket. I'll be very hyper, happy, mind is racing. I'll make all these crazy plans on what i'm going to do after school and for my future. Which is a problem when you need to stay focused in class. I'll get agitated with people because I'm so hyper I feel I have a lot to say and if others are talking I feel I won't be able to get what I want to say in.

But then, my mood will just switch... to very depressed. I honestly will just slouch down behind my desk and just hate life. I want nothing to do with anyone, I want to be left alone in a room by myself. Any sound that is not from the teacher annoys the living crap out of me. Life becomes what appears to be nothing and I wish I did not have to go through another day. I'll tune everything and everyone out for the most part because I'm in a state in which everything on the planet is useless and I hate everything including myself.

And then my anxiety also plays this whole mind trick on me... I will start to work on my homework but panic because I don't know where I need to start, or what to do. I'll read something wrong, then believe I did the whole assignment wrong and feel the need to redo it. Or if I mess up on something then I have to redo it because I can't stand when something is not correct...

I am not sure what to do because the school can't do much for me because I need to pass... I don't want to bug my guidance counselor anymore. (I had to get my schedule changes, then my mom had to call and get me out of swimming in gym due to SH)

Can anyone give me some advise?

I don't wish to be dealing with any of this! I WANT IT TO BE GONE! I WANT TO BE NORMAL. At this point, if I were to try to explain my thought process and mood swings someone will think i'm crazy... I'm not though, I promise....

I know you said you don't want to bug your guidance counselor anymore, but it may be your best option. You do have documented conditions and you are seeing a psychologist. They may be able to develop some sort of action plan with you to help make sure you do as well as you can in your classes. You can't get out of every class or anything, but it may be nice to have a plan put in place that the teachers and everyone can follow to make sure you are getting the most out of your learning experience. They may even be more willing to work with you one-on-one, either before or after class, if they know what's happening. It's your guidance counselor's job to bother people, after all. Or you can talk to the school nurse or an administrator like a vice principal or principal and see what they say, but the school may e willing to work with you on some things.

I think you should also talk to your psychologist about the problems you are having with school, because they should have some suggestions for you.

Hi there,

Honestly, I don't think there is such a thing as normal. In my opinion, normal is just a setting on the dryer and nothing more. Everyone has their own way of living and that would be considered their 'normal'. You know?

Maybe it would help if you make a schedule for homework and assignments and stick to that. Perhaps you can do homework when you get home so you can relax later. You can do them in a certain order - most challenging class to easiest, first class to last, etc. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're struggling academically. I'm sure your teachers would appreciate your asking.

I think you should talk to your guidance counselor about how you're feeling. She might have some recommendations for ways to cope during class. I can assure you, you won't bother your counselor. She's in that profession, she is a counselor because she likes to help people - that's her job. If you or your mom have spoken to her before like you have mentioned, she's somewhat aware of what you're going through and seeing her will benefit you.

Take care!

Are you seeking help from somewhere that may be able to help work with you on different types of therapies and medications?

Yes, I am seeing a psychologist and psychiatrist. She helps me talk through things and makes my thoughts make more sense to me.
