White Ink Tattoo on my Wrist

I need opinions people!! =D

Ive been thinking about getting a tattoo lately. I drew one that incorperated my family names and heritage, but it would have been big... SO I decided to change my mind (as I do pretty frequently)....

I want to get the word "Believe" written in cursive on my wrist in white ink. Now, I dont have any tattoos as of yet but I'm about to turn 19 and this is going to be a very sentimental tattoo and experience for me...

I was wondering if any of you have white ink tattoos and how they look/your experience with them thus far. Even if you don't have a white ink tattoo, what was it like getting tattoo'd on your wrist? I know everyone's pain tolerance is different, I'm pretty good with the pain thing. I'm just curious. Haha.

Plus, how would you know if the place is clean and stuff? I checked out this one place today and the guy was so eager to tattoo me he didn't ask me for ID or tell mea cost or anything... I went into him and the first thing I said was " I dont know a THING about tattoos, can you give me somewhat of a breakdown" he didnt... he told me to find the writing I liked and that he'd be with me in 20 mins.... So i had to tell him that I was not getting it done today, that I was more like 'shopping around'.... then i told him i wanted white ink he told me he didnt do the white ink.... so like... seeing him rush into it like that turned on the alarm in my head...

So...any pointers? =)

Re: White Ink Tattoo on my Wrist

First of let me say that I do have a tattoo on my wrist and I am a sucker when it comes to pain. It did hurt, but it was manageable. Although the very wrist, because I got it done long ways, the actual wrist part hurts a little bit more than the other part.

Now the ink, most tattoo artist will tell you it is not wise to get white ink. My brother being a tattoo artist, won't do white unless its to lighten another color. White does not show up really at all and it would be a waste of your money and time if you go with white. It would probably take about thirty sessions to actually even get white to show up. If I were you, I would get another color that is light, that would show up and stay. Just over all white is a difficult color to work with. You don't want such a sentimental and precious and small tattoo to be difficult do you?

As far as the tattooing parlor, I am happy you didn't go with the person you first met. I would suggest not going back there. That really is never a good sign. Do your research on tattoo artist and the parlor. Call around, go to a website if its possible, check out the parlor in person, ask people who have tattoos that you know and where they went, get testimonies of those who got tattooed at a particular parlor, get pricing checked, and see if they are willing to do the tattoo you want. Do not rush into this. Also, I most likely guarantee that all the tattoo artist you speak to, won't do white.

It sounds really nice. But I agree with ashley. white isn't such a great colour. perhaps blue? or another nice light colour?

I can understand that white would not stay vivid. But I think thats the idea that I want, I want the tattoo to look almost scarlike. I'm going to post some photos that I found of the color.

I know I would have to go back and get it 'touched up' a couple of times, but what other color would leave it scarlike looking...?

I like those... alot... Very scar-like. ((pretty cool, actually)) You would probably have to talk to a few artists and see if they would even be willing to do white ink. And be sure that you are willing to go and get those touched up, maybe a few times.

Good luck!

Okay, I LOVE the white ink, I've actually never heard of that until now!
As for advice, I would call and ask some simple questions before you even waste your time stepping foot into a particular tatoo parlor.

i think the white ink looks sooo cool. hmm, i hear what other people are saying about it being very faded and perhaps not the best choice of colour, but if its what you want then i say, go for it!

not everyone wants their tattoo to stand out a lot, and it seems like it would be more personal in white anyway, because its less noticeable. thats just my take on it anyway.

post pics once you get it done! :D

you're right Elle, It is going to be more of a personal tattoo.

I'm getting "believe" written to look like a scar because I had a very terrible spout of depression that almost led to the end of my life. I think that seeing Believe written there every day will give me that last bit of hope that I need to completely overcome this past event.

I didn't know you were going to be getting it done to look like a scar. If that is the case then that is perfect!
I actually love it and I hope you can find an artist willing!
I did a similar thing, I got the word love tattooed on my wrist long ways because i cut for five years and was extremely addicted to it. But I got it to help me stop. TWLOHA was my inspiration. And now every year on national TWLOHA love day i will have love already there.

Hey,

I actually really like white ink tattoos and was thinking of getting one myself in the future. However, they fade a little to much for me. Plus, I wanted a bigger tattoo so I'm pretty sure I'll end up just going with another light ink. I've actually seen a picture somewhere out in cyber space of someone with a white ink tattoo of believe on their wrist. I couldn't find it when I looked but if you really want to see what it looks like you can try to find it on flickr. Good luck with everything. Here are some pictures that might help you.

Haha I didn't even know someone else had Believe in white ink:P (well of COURSE someone else had to have had it haha) but the idea was all my own (I was very proud of coming up with it actually;P)

Any ideas as to another color I could talk the artist into using if they won't do white?

p.s. for those of you with wrist tattoos, how much did they cost if you don't mind my asking :$

Every artist charges differently, and remember you pay for what you get, don't go to the cheapest place, as they will most likely not be very good,

Re: White Ink Tattoo on my Wrist

just so you know, it's very hard to find a decent tattoo artist that will do white ink. I've been looking for almost a year, and called every reputable tattoo place within a 45 minute ride, and none will do it.

Re: White Ink Tattoo on my Wrist

to find a parlour look in the telephone book, they sometimes have some, or ask people you know who have piercings or tatoos where they got theirs done

post a pick when you've had it done =)

Re: White Ink Tattoo on my Wrist

I would tell you how much mine cost but I cant because my brother does my tattoos for free. But he did say it would have been around a hundred if I had visited any of the local parlors in my area. (The good ones of course). But as many have said its best just to call the parlors your interested in. But Im guesstimating and saying anywhere from $50 to $175.
