Brittney Spears released from conservatorship

Brittney Spears was released from her conservatorship. This is big news.

I have thoughts and I'll share eventually. I know a fair bit about conservatorship but don't have the spoons to provide much more information right now.

Re: Brittney Spears released from conservatorship

I hate that it's taken this long for Britney to be freed of her father. I have a feeling that issues regarding Jamie Spears go way back, long before 2008. She was suddenly thrust into stardom at only ten years old and doing provacative music videos at sixteen. Yeah, there's a lot more there that hopefully Britney will be able to open up to someone about someday or write a book — even if anonymously — because her story needs to be shared.

Her life is not glitz and glam. I remember back in the day, hearing of her drug issues and being confused as fuck. "Why is she doing this? It's wrong!" but now as a grown adult, I am wondering if she was coerced. I wouldn't be surprised if she was, a lot of child-turned-teen stars of the late 90s and early 2000s experienced the same trauma.

Even if it was "consensual" at the time.

Re: Brittney Spears released from conservatorship

I hope that she is successful. The conservatorship might have been necessary but if that is the case it was being abused. I hope that she will work with people to transition off conservatorship to being on her own. She should be given the chance to try life without conservatorship. My view is that if she does end up needing it, she will decompensate and end up back on. Hopefully if that happens they have a third party take over so there's less chance of her family abusing the conservatorship.

I don't doubt she needed it in 2008. I just question it she truly needed it for 13 years
