Adult going back to College
Is anyone here an 'adult' who took a break from college and is going back?
I got my AA in 2016 and then worked on healing from 2016 to 2017. In 2018 I went to work and in 2019 I got my job. I had always planned on going back to school to become a therapist and then I got my dream job. I am currently working through my BSW...I'll be done next year....and trying to narrow down schools for my MSW. What about you all? |

I took 5 years off after high school. I then completed my HOA which took 3 years. I worked in that field for 5 years and now I’m just finishing up my first year of SW. I also plan to do BSW and MSW.

I got my BA (Hons) in Psychology straight out of high school. Followed by a post-grad certificate in Addictions Counselling. I've now been out of formal/university level education for almost 10 years and will be going back to get my Master's in Counselling Psychology in January 2022!
Graduating from university during the recession made it feel like I needed to work right away, I wouldn't have qualified for much in terms of student loans, etc at the time so I didn't have much choice. I've now been in the healthcare field for 8 years and feel more prepared than ever to finally go back to school and get my MA and become a psychotherapist. Sent from my SM-A715W using Tapatalk |

I finished my MA last year after having a couple of years out of education. I feel like eventually I'll go back to university again because my degree hasn'y given me a pathway into a career like I wish it had. I'm still figuring out what direction I'll take, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened at some point or another.

After I finished college at 20, I took some time away but then there was a death in the family and I went back at 21. I finished at 22. Then at 25 I went to university and finished at 28. I then already enrolled in a Personal Training course to allow me to become a Personal Trainer.
I took a break from education for a while and during this current UK lockdown I've returned to online learning. Given my education history, I think even after I'm done with this course, I'll take a break and find some other course to delve into. :) |

I got my BA in 2014, and was very burnt out and exhausted so didn't do much until 2019 when I started my MA, which I then finished in 2020. I'm doing online learning now but can see me going back into education further on down the line in my life :)

I would like to return to college soon, but it's been difficult what with COVID and — as I discussed once on Discord — the community college in my area has been poor with providing accommodations in the past. So, I'm hoping in the next few years, when I've resettled to a different location, I will be able to return to school.
I remember being in university and had an ageist attitude towards someone in their early 40s (only a few years older than me at this point, back then I was in my early 20s) who was returning to school with encouragement from her teenaged children. So, I do not think it's ever too late to go back to college/university. :) |
