pregnant or paranoid?

Hello,
I'll start off by saying that I am bulimic so I haven't had a period in about a year, an issue that I am working on. I had protected sex on October 18th, it had been 2 years since my last time. A few days after my lower left abdomen hurt and I was told he probably hit my cervix. Now I have these weird feelings in my stomach like it's heavy and I feel like I can see a bump forming. I don't know if that's me being paranoid or what. I press on my nipples and they are sore and I pee a lot but I drink a ton of water. I am just scared because I don't get a period so I wouldn't know if I was late or not. I know eating disorders cause trouble with fertilization but I'm pretty sure I still ovulate. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hey girl, welcome to TeenHelp! I do not think that you are being paranoid at all. That doesn't mean nothing is wrong, you could be not pregnant, but you aren't being unreasonably concerned by any extent of the imagination..

To be honest, I am not sure whether or not you just stop having your period OR if you stop ovulating. To me it makes sense that you stop ovulating because you would have to shed it at the end of the month if it isn't fertilized, but I guess your body could still release and egg and maybe when it comes out maybe it's not red, it could look like discharge, if your bulimic your body might just not produce the mucus and lining in the uterus only. But like I said, I don't fully know.

Any ways, if you believe you are at risk for pregnancy, you should get a home pregnancy test if it has been 2 weeks and see if you are in the clear or not. If you aren't pregnant, then you can carry on. Although I recommend getting birth control for the future. If you are pregnant, you have options and we'd be glad to discuss it with you.

Also, are you getting treatment for the bulimia? That is concerning for me, it can risk your health and I hope that you will talk to someone so you can be healthy.

Re: pregnant or paranoid?

Thank you for your nice response. I am not quite sure either, I know I haven't gotten a regular period since last october. If I take a home pregnancy test after 14 days after the sexual intercourse occurred, would that be reliable? If so I would be able to take it this coming Saturday.
I am not currently getting help, I'm honestly terrified to tell my parents. I abuse laxatives and have for 5 years. I know they don't cause weight loss. But I am trapped in a vicious cycle of trying to quit and then being constipated for 5+ days. I may have ibs but I'm not sure. Anyways, thank you for your reply. I'm still nervous that I may be pregnant even though my friends have told me I'm worrying over nothing.

You should consider talking to a primary care physician or a GI specialist about the laxative abuse since overuse can create dependency on laxatives. If you're abusing laxatives, that's probably causing your IBS symptoms. You should talk to someone about your periods too.

You wouldn't notice a baby bump this early anyway. However when you start becoming nervous about symptoms, you may begin to think that you have them.

If it has been 2 weeks you can get a pregnancy test and it will be reliable.

You can get help. It says you're 21, so it is illegal for a doctor to tell your parents what is going on so you can go talk to a doctor - about a pregnancy OR bulimia - and it will be ok. Even if you are younger, let's say 15, your doctor isn't likely to tell your parents what happened in a private room unless he or she feels it is necessary. The doctor will offer to have you and your parents in the room together so that you can all discuss it, but you can request that the doctor not tell your parents anything before receiving your consent.

Re: pregnant or paranoid?

Here's an update: I got 2 tests and took them two days apart 17 days and 19 days post sex. They both read "not pregnant" then I saw that the expiration date was 2 months ago.. should I still trust this result? 4 days ago I started having brownish bloody discharge that turned into blood when I wipe and some leakage. But it's not a heavy period. It's weird since I haven't had a period for a year due to being underweight. Any thoughts??

Everything expires in the medical world. Even something as simple as a white 2x2 expires or an alcohol prep. Officially, you should go buy another test and retake it to be certain.

Brown discharge could be a sign of your period coming. Given that your period is abnormal due to your weight, I still encourage trying to make an appointment with a physician or nurse practitioner. They can also check for infections too. It is important to see what their recommendation is given that you do not have regular periods.

I have now been bleeding for 6 days. It's not really heavy per say but when I pee blood is at the bottom of the toilet with some blood clots. I have no idea what's going on. If I use a pad barely any blood gets on it. It almost just Sits in my vag til I wipe...

Re: pregnant or paranoid?

Sounds like you've gotten your period. Bleeding due to being pregnant is very slight and is usually pinkish. If you haven't had a period in a year then your body is probably having some trouble going through the motions.
But yeah, if you've been bleeding for 6 days straight then you're probably not pregnant. Blood clots are also pretty normal with periods, especially in the beginning and end of them.
