Can you actually get pregnant on the pill?

I've been on the pill for over a year, I've never missed a pill (maybe a few hours late once or twice) and pretty much at the same time every day.

Given those circumstances, how likely is it that you could get pregnant having sex without a condom (and no ejaculation)?

I'm having a slight spaz.

EDIT: Haven't I technically not ovulated and produced any eggs that could then be fertilized?!

It's extremely unlikely. Sometimes birth control fails, but if you've been on it this long with no problems, I'm sure you're fine. I'm on birth control and we never use condoms... I have never gotten pregnant while on birth control. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. :)

The pill does 3 main things to prevent pregnancy.

It thickens your cervix which makes it very difficult for sperm to get through.
It stops you ovulating so if any sperm gets through there is nothing to fertilise.
It stops the lining of the uterus thickening do even if you ovulate and it get fertilised it can't embed itself and will be removed from your body during your period.

Chances of all three of those things failing is very slim I think it is like 1% failure rate to the pill if taken correctly which you have.

I know all this stuff. I think I'm just worrying, and being curious about it because I'm sat here waiting like a lemon for my period to come. I don't want it to happen when I'm asleep D:

I was like this on Friday. Mine normally comes in the morning at it came when I got in from bonfire night at about 11pm. All day through college I was going to the toilet at every chance to check and panicking when it wasn't there and it came while i was out enjoying myself and not thinking about it.

You know stressing can delay your period even more and I know you know that. Just put a pad on and try to go to sleep and relax and it will probably come during the night while your not thinking about it.

Remember "A watched pot never boils" :hehe:

If the hormones are at an appropriate level, then there's almost no chance.

I know I know D: It's just I used to have such a hard time with periods, and now I'm kind of coping well. But now I'm on edge because I'll be going to bed soon and I don't want it to happen when I'm not aware. AND. I start work tomorrow, first day, and I have to suffer with my period throughout it. No fair :(

Depends, usually if you take the pill everyday, at a specific time, and are consistant with it. It's a very very very small percent.
Also if you do it the week after you just had your period, the chance is like a fraction of the percent. Closer to when your period is going to be due, your chances could be upped slightly.
Just stay consistant with your pill, and you shouldn't have to worry.
Eithery way, using condoms, and the pill. You really have nothing to worry about. =P

I think there's only a 0.1% chance of the pill failing to work.

It sounds like you're stressing because it's late...which can make it even later! So chill out, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

Not dry sex. Actual sex, without a condom, but he doesn't ejaculate inside of me.

And this has nothing to do with me anymore, my worries are gone :dem: But this could be a useful thread for others.

Hahhahaha xD People who have never had a pregnancy scare have no idea how amazing a period can be to get! Lol. Sorry, that post just made me happy.

And I think that it is actually possible to get pregnant on birth control, it's just very unlikely. But you know, the ONLY way to not have even the slimmest chance of getting pregnant is just by not having sex at all.

Re: Can you actually get pregnant on the pill?

It's extremely unlikely to get pregnant on the pill like someone said, even if you don't use a condom.
My mom was on birth control for years without using a condom. I don't like to think about my parents on the job LOL, but yeah, she was on the pill still is on the same pill, never once got pregnant. So it's not likely.
