Health and Work- Balancing a Hectic Schedule and Good Health

Creating boundaries between your life at home and work is a challenge that many people deal with as they pursue their careers. The balance between a successful career and health can be difficult to accomplish when work consumes most of your time and you can barely get a moment away from your responsibilities. This usually leads to anxiety, stress and physical health issues. With proper planning and knowing when to take a break, the balance can be achieved to help you enjoy a healthier life.

Time Management
  • A key step is to determine how much time you devote to your work in comparison to the amount of free time you have during the week.
  • Consider the impact that your duties and responsibilities at the workplace have on your general wellbeing. If you are always tired, the quality of your work and productivity will eventually be compromised.
  • If you put in extra hours to advance your career and are constantly working, you are likely to miss out on memorable family occasions and neglect other areas of your social life.
  • It is also important to determine the amount of time you spend on activities that do not add value to your day such as excessive social networking and talking to your colleagues about personal issues. Consider using your time more productively by getting rid of distractions and completing your work within reasonable periods of time.
Reducing the Workload

Consult your boss or supervisor about the options you have to reduce your workload if you are overwhelmed. Suggestions such as designating tasks to other people can help to minimize the stress that you associate with your job.

Whether there is a project that you need to embark on or a managerial role that you are taking on, if you feel unwell or already have a large workload, do not do anything until you have enough time and rest.

Personal and Social Life

Spending adequate time with your loved ones should always be a priority. Schedule some time off during which you can catch up with family and friends. Devices such as phones and laptops should be kept aside to ensure that your focus is on enjoying the moments you have with the people you care about.

Hobbies

Everyone has a hobby, passion or activity they enjoy doing. Identify the fulfilling activities that you like and spare some time every week. Whether you like to shop, cook, read or swim, do things that will make it easier for you to relax.

Exercise and Nutrition

Exercising regularly while you have several responsibilities may seem like an impossible task but you need to be physically active. Set aside some minutes each day to exercise, improve your energy and get healthier. Exercise relives tense muscles and is one of the best solutions for stress management.

Good nutrition refers to eating a balanced diet that gives you the nutrients you require to be both mentally and physically healthy. Eating good food will have a positive effect on your energy, weight, confidence and general mood.
