Age gap dating

This girl who is 13 and in 7th grade likes me. I think shes really cute and really nice. But im a sophmore and am 15 and im not sure if the age gap is too much. I feel like there is a lot of social norms that go against that. But like if a 24 year old is dating a 21 year old its not weird. Am I just overthinking or is it weird?

Re: Age gap dating

I think since there's only a two year difference it isn't that bad, but you should consider whether you two are in different life stages or not. You're in high school and she's still in middle school, and a lot can happen developmentally in that time period. So, make sure you two are in a similar place emotionally and mentally before beginning to date. As with any relationship, make sure both of you are able to consent to anything that happens and communicate with one another appropriately.

Re: Age gap dating

Hey there,

There isn't anything wrong with age gap dating, as long as it isn't between an adult and a minor. Since that isn't the case here, I think you're perfectly fine to pursue the relationship if it's something you might be interested in. While it might seem like there is a societal stigma against age gaps in relationships, more people are actually in relationships with an age difference than you might think! To a degree, age truly is just a number and, as long as the two of you are in similar places in life, can talk through any differences that arise as a result of being different ages, and are compatible despite the age difference, there's no reason the relationship can't work. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you and whoever you choose to be your partner are happy and comfortable in the relationship. As long as that's the case, pay no mind to what anyone else says!

Take care,
Sam
