Is a hot dog a sandwich?

As the title stated, do you consider a hot dog (complete with roll) a sandwich?

The definition of sandwich is:

Quote:

an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.
So by that definition it could be considered a sandwich. But I don't think it really is. What do you think?

I would consider a hot dog as a sandwich. :)

I don't consider it a "sandwich". Guess the way you put the food into the bread makes the difference.

A hot dog is a hot dog and a sandwich is a sandwich! :P Hot dogs are usually served in special buns with sausages and sauces inside, while sandwiches can be made using different types of buns/bread, different ingredients put on top etc.

A hot dog is as much of a sandwich as a burger is. :bleh:

In other words: No, a hot dog is not a sandwich.

My vote is also no. In my mind a sandwich has filling between two slices of bread, so a hot dog doesn't count because it's on a bun.

I’ve eaten hot dogs on bread before and not a bun D: Is it only a sandwich sometimes?

That would be a sandwich but not technically a hot dog then. :bleh:

Also what if I had half a sandwich? I sometimes make peanut butter sandwiches on one piece of bread and fold it in half! Not two pieces!

That's not a sandwich either, that's just a fancy slice of bread. :p

Re: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

I did other. I think it's just one of those things where it's just simply a hot dog on a bun. I have used a piece of bread and put the hot dog on there and folded it, I have also used hot dog buns. They don't call them, "hot dog sandwiches" in the store when buy the bread it's called a "bun".

I think it's just it's own category.

I have put cheese on mine because it tastes so much better that way. I also don't eat hot dogs often anyways.

What do you call the bun of the hot dog then? It's not a sandwich, is it? It's just the bun itself. Just like a hamburger bun; is that a sandwich? We just don't call it a sandwich... :hehe:

Two other people voted yes. I’m so less alone now.

There's even an article on this I enjoyed reading!

and

I personally do consider it a sandwich myself! You use a hot dog bun which is two pieces of bread.

I think a hot dog is more like a taco...:?

Re: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

I can see why judging by that definition a hot dog could be classed as a sandwich. But in my mind, it's still a hotdog :P

That said, I have had sausage sandwiches, which is essentially a cooked sausage placed between two slices of bread. That is a sandwich because it's slices of bread and not in a roll or whatever the bread is called that is used for hot dogs :p
