Online friend with a possible eating disorder -
March 23rd 2011, 11:35 PM
Okay, so I have this friend that I've known for 3 years online, and I think she has an eating disorder. She refuses to go to a doctor, even when she's having some obvious health problems. I want to get her help, and I want to do everything that I can to make sure that she is healthy, but I don't know how to approach the situation. I feel helpless. What can I do?

Michael,
Having a friend with an eating disorder is tough. But ultimately, if she doesn't want the help for this- then don't waste your energy. I think that you should explain to her that you care about her a lot and you are worried about her health right now. Give her examples of what you think is unhealthy. Approach her from a loving place. This is either going to be an eyeopener for her, or it's not going to change anything. Also, the distance is going to make things hard as well. I would say talk to her and be open and honest. Just know that you can't fix and help her unless she wants it too.
