Re: POLL: Should Schools Do More to Teach Life Skills?

I voted no, let me explain why. I do not think the current curriculum in schools, at least in the US, is very good. I like the way Elon Musk puts it, to paraphrase, he says current schools provide...

What prevents you from believing?/Why do you believe?

I'm interested in everyone's thoughts and reasons. I will play Devil's Advocate on both sides, and I encourage everyone to do the same, regardless of position. The point of this thread is to debate,...

Re: What's your favorite Disney movie?

Does Star Wars count now that Disney owns the franchise? ;)

If so, The Empire Strikes Back, if not, The Jungle Book.

Re: Are you afraid?

I'm afraid of the consequences of there being a god. I wouldn't say I'm particularly afraid of god. I'm more afraid of fundamentalist religious fanatics. However, if there is a god, I do fear his...

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

Look up the definition of a scientific theory. Not one from a creationist who warp the meaning, but from a credible source of someone who actually works in the field. So, let me use a pretty credible...

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

This is true, and so does Paul. But, my argument would be that in Genesis 1-3 the word Adam in the ancient text literally means mankind. It isn't used as a singular noun for the name of a person...

Re: English composition help

So, some of these seem to be trick questions. I'd check with your classmates and/or teacher. If all you're doing is finding compound sentences then you are finding a sentence with TWO simple...

Re: Is she right???

Assuming you're referencing the Christian God, the Bible says God is love. It doesn't mean that SH should be overlooked. You should still seek correction of this habit. But, I'm sure if God forgives...

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

I'm not sure. It's kind of my primary question and purpose of this thread.

If I were to accept the Bible, and say that it was non-literal, I would interpret them being genealogies of Adam and Eve,...

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

Thanks Dan. How would you, or do you, treat the genealogies in Genesis?

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

He didn't. He suggested theistic evolution in most of his writings. Never creationism. Haven't you heard of a little thing called "Darwin in the Dock"? Unless you care to provide examples of Lewis...

Re: Non-Literal Interpretation of Genesis, how do you explain genealogies?

Then I guess Augustine, Origen, Martin Luther, John Calvin, a lot of the Reformers, and C.S. Lewis weren't Christian, didn't study it properly, or simply just hadn't done research on it. Most of...

Re: Why?

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who...

Re: Your Religious and/or Spiritual Beliefs

Why don't you look into Unitarian Universalist? Seems similar to what you're describing. http://www.uua.org/beliefs/what-we-believe

They mostly follow the Bible, or use it as a guide, but not as...

Re: Would you have a relationship with someone who used to be a man?

If I was attracted to them, why not? There's too much taboo on these topics and I think it's ridiculous. People just need to learn to be comfortable with who you are. It's fine to be gay, it's fine...

Re: Acne and birth control?

I'm not familiar with the shot, but typically contraceptives other than condoms can produce acne. It's not uncommon. Which, according to WebMD, seems to be the case:...
