Death? - July 30th 2009, 04:52 AM

I've been crying just about almost every night the past few weeks, or months. Depression struck me pretty well. Although im a rather very happy person when im with my friends.

To the point,
Can crying too much kill you? Silly question but im concerned. What about depression? Can it slowly kill you?

Thanks xxx

I've heard that crying too much can make you sick, but I doubt it can kill you. It removes toxins from the brain and decreases anxiety, which you appear to have a ton of.

Depression can kill you but only if you take your own life. If you are suffering from anxiety simultaneously, that can have adverse affects on your health as well. Remember that feeling suicidal is a medical emergency.

Hey Alissandra,

I don't think there's too much to be concerned about with the crying every night in a health-sense, actually, crying can be good for you - so, if you want to cry, then cry! Don't try and bottle things up. Instead of actually tackling the crying I would encourage you to tackle the issues behind the crying and the depression - what is actually making you feel this way. It is great that you consider yourself to be a happy person around your friends - perhaps you could talk to them about this, or spend more time with them when you can.

Depression can cause people to become suicidal and therefore, through peoples actions, depression can kill you. It can also have negative affects on your behaviour and health aswell, as Dream has already pointed out.

If you are concerned about this and it is affecting you from day to day then it would be worth talking through it with someone who you're comfortable with, whether it is a friend, relative or other adult who you can trust. It is better to try and tackle the issues and depression as soon as possible and trying to prevent it going further rather than waiting for it to get worse.

Take care.
